ORDINANCE NO. 837
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF YELM UPDATING THE YELM TREE ADVISORY BOARD
CODE, CHAPTER 2.34 YELM MUNICIPAL CODE, ASSURING THAT ONE MEMBERSHIP
POSITION BE HELD BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE YELM SCHOOL DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the Yelm Tree Advisory Board was created and established to advise the
City Council on specific tree-related matters, and
WHEREAS, the Yelm Tree Advisory Board hosts many activities that require the
participation of school age children, and
WHEREAS, the representation of the school district on the tree board is an invaluable
resource,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF YELM DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 2.34.020 Yelm Municipal Code is hereby amended as follows:
2.34.020 Membership -Appointment -Removal -Compensation.
A. The tree advisory board shall consist of seven members who shall be appointed
by the mayor of the city. One of the seven members shall be a representative of
the Yelm School District,~,~ignated by the superintendent of the Yelm School
District to serve on the board. The term of office for three #e~members shall be
two years and three members shall be three years. The term of office for the
school board member shall be oven-ended.
B. Any member who faits to attend three consecutive meetings of the tree advisory
board, that are not excused, shall be replaced immediately.
C. Any member may be reappointed by the mayor after the lapse of any term in
office. The mayor shall fill any vacancies as they may occur, and any person so
appointed shall serve for the unexpired portion of the predecessor's term.
D. Members of the board shall serve without compensation; provided, however, that
the reasonable expenses of the board and its members shall be provided for by
budgeted funds as approved by vote of the city council.

2.34.030 Organization -Records.
A. The board shall select its own chairperson from its membership, may create such
other officers and subcommittees as it may deem necessary, and shall adopt all
necessary rules or regulations for the transaction of its business and the keeping
of its own records.
B. Accurate minutes shall be kept of the proceedings of all meetings, findings and
determinations, which minutes shall be made available to the public at #~e City

advisory board shall meet eve other monthly on a regular schedule as
determined by the board, and such meetings shall be open to the public.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect October 12, 2005.
