Re: SR 507 Yelm Loop Joint Development
Dear Ms. Trowbridge:
Yelm Community Schools has worked closely with the City of Yelm in the development of the District’s property at 10605 Mill Road SE. This property is the site of Mill Pond Intermediate
School and Ridgeline Junior High School, which is currently under construction on the same property.
The school property falls under the category of 4(f) lands as described by the Federal Highway Administration. The requirements of section 4(f) apply to projects that utilize lands
that are significant such as a park or recreation area, and open to the public.
As part of the joint development of the property, Yelm Community Schools was aware that the SR 507 Yelm Loop preferred corridor is partially located on the site, and the District concurred
with the conditions attached to the site plan review approval issued by the City of Yelm which restricts development within the proposed corridor. Pursuant to the land use approval,
all structures and improvements with the exception of the ball field outfield is located outside the Loop corridor and the District understands that, at the time of right-of-way acquisition
by the Washington State Department of Transportation, the ball field will be abandoned.
Yelm Community Schools has been supportive of the City of Yelm’s efforts to acquire funding for the SR 507/510 Loop in the past, and considers this transportation improvement to be key
to a healthy community in the future. The school is willing to provide approximately 2 acres of land as shown on the attached plan for transportation use.
The School District’s representative for coordination and planning is Erling Birkland, Facilities Director. Please feel free to contact Erling at regarding any aspects of the School
District project.
Sincerely,
Alan Burke, Superintendent
Yelm Community Schools
