Ray -The foundations should be at least 24-in. diameter and 9-ft. deep for each of the posts. The
posts should extend down into the foundation 8 ft. It sounds like the posts are longer than
required so the bottoms of the posts can be cut off, or the foundations can k~e made deeper to
accommodate the extra post lengths.
I'll keep the calculations in case you need them for submittal.

IIVSTALLATION OVERVIEW
This manual will walk you through the installation of the scoreboard step by step, from deciding
where to install the scoreboard to testing the installed system. If at any time during the installation
you have a question to which the answer cannot be found in this manual, please do not hesitate to
call Scoreboard Service Cornpany (800) 411-3136. Technicians are on call 24 hours a day to answer
all of your installation, operation, and maintenance questions.
Following is an overvievv of the steps involved in the installation of the scoreboard. In order to
make the installation process as quick and easy as possible, follow these steps in order:
1) Review the architect's specifications below.
2) Determine the scoreboard's location and orientation and install the mounting poles/beams.
3) Join sections A, B, and C using two of the four 14' mounting angle irons and join sections E, F,
G, and H using the rf~maining two 14' mounting angle irons, creating a left section assembly
and a right section assembly.
4) Connect wiring and install crossover tushings between cabinets A and B and between cabinets
B and C in the left section assembly and between cabinets D and E, E and F, and F and G in
the right section assembly.
5) Mount the left section assembly to the mounting poles/beams.

ARCHITECT'S SPECIFICATIONS
Overall Dimensions:
8'-0" tall x 28'-0" long x 8" deep; shipped in seven (7) sections
Weight:
Hanging weight =approximately 1,575 lbs. -Shipping weight =approximately 1,830 lbs.
Mounting Requirements:
(3) 8" steel I-beams (W8 x 31) or (3) 8" UD galvanized steel poles (schedule 40)
Power Requirements:
Scoreboard
1, 2, 3, or 4 120-volt, 20-amp, 60 Hz grounded AC circuit(s) connected to a power disconnect
switch or circuit breaker (refer to the wiring diagram on page 8 for detailed instructions on
determining the scoreboard's power requirements -specific power requirement information is
also marked on the scoreboard's serial number label, located on the scoreboard)
Keyboard Controller
(1) 120-volt, 15-amp, 60 Hz grounded AC circuit in a standard duplex outlet (this electric
service becomes optional if an external battery pack was purchased with the controller)
Cable Requirements (for cable-controlled systems only):
Category 5 (twisted-pair) shielded data cable; Scoreboard part number CC~1A or equivalent
DETERMII~~ING LOCATION AND ORIENTATION
The scoreboard should be positioned so that the greatest number of spectators can easily view it.
However, before installing the poles or beams to which the scoreboard will be mounted also give
consideration to the best orientation of the scoreboard should the system be used to score a daytime
or afternoon game. The scoreboard should be positioned so that sunlight does not glare off of its
face. In the U.S.A., this is usually on the South or West side of the field. Local building and sign
codes may also determine where the scoreboard must be mounted and which direction it must face.
Consult with the local building or zoning department before installing the scoreboard.
INSTALLING THE MOUNTING POLES/BEAMS
Install the three (3) mounting poles/bearns (supplied by the customer) on the field 10'-0" (ten feet,
zero inches) center to centE~r with at least 18'-6" of pole/beam above ground (refer to the installation
diagram below). If a sponsor panel is to be mounted above the scoreboard, leave at least 21'-0" of
pole/beam above ground (an additional 30").
The poles/beams must be set into poured, concrete footers. Make sure the poles are level,
plumb, and even before the concrete footers are allowed to set. Depending on locale and soil
conditions, a 5-foot deep concrete footer is generally adequate to support the weight of the
poles/beams and the scoreboard. However, the required dimensions of the footers vary from city to
city and from state to statE~ depending on the building and sign codes for the area in which the
scoreboard is being installed. Consult with local building officials for the required pole sizes and footer
construction regarding this installation. A local architect, structural engineer, or sign installer may
also be a source of assistance.

NOTE: CONSULT WITN LOCAL BUILDING CODE OFFICIALS REGARDING THE REQUIRED DIMENSIONS/CONSTRUCTION OF THE FOOTERS,
POLE/BEAM SIZES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS REGARDING THE INSTALLATION OF THE SCOREBOARD.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT MOUNT FLAT 1'O A WALL. A MINIMUM OF 18" CLEARANCE MUST BE LEFT FOR ACCESS TO THE REAR OF THE
UNIT, AS THE ELECTRONIC MODULE ACCESS AND ALL POWER AND SIGNAL CABLE ACCESS DOORS ARE LOCATED ON THE BACK OF
THE SCOREBOARD. 24" CLEARANCE IS RECOMMENDED.
ASSEMBLING THE SCOREBOARD
1. Carefully remove each of the seven (7) scoreboard sections from their packaging, making sure not
to pry against or cut into the cabinets. Inspect each section for shipping damage according to the
instructions on page 1.
2. Using lumber (or a substitute) to keep the cabinets several inches off the ground, lay cabinets A,
B, and C face up with cabinet "A" on the left and cabinet "C" on the right. Align the cabinets so
that they are flush across the top and bottom and the edges of the cabinets are touching. Each
cabinet is lettered "A" through "G" on the back.
3. Using two of the 14' mounting angle irons as well as the supplied 318-16 X 1-1 /4" bolts, 3/8" flat
washers, and 318 hex nuts, join the three sections by bolting the two 14' angle irons across the
three cabinets, one on top and the other on bottom. With the angle irons resting against the back
flange, the bolts should pass through a washer, the angle iron, and the cabinet's back flange. The
nut should be installed on the backside of the cabinet's back flange. Joining these three sections
using the 14' mounting angle irons will leave two feet of each angle iron extending beyond the end
of cabinet C. (See illustration below)
4. Repeat step 3 to join sections D, E, F, and G. Joining these four sections using the 14' mounting
angle irons will leave two feet of section D extending beyond the end of the mounting the top and
bottom angle iron. (See illustration below)
ASSEMBLING THE SCOREBOARD (continued)
5. Attach a lift device to the top angle iron of the left section and stand thE~ section upright.
6. Remove the screws securing the access doors on the left side of section A and the right side of
section B , if viewing the scoreboard from the rear. (For access door locations, see illustration
below.)
7. Place one of the supplied bushings in the hole between the two scoreboard sections, and tighten
one of the supplied ring nuts onto each end of the bushing. (See illustration below) Repeat the
installation for each remaining section.
8. Once the crossover bushings are installed, all wiring harness connections should be made
between cabinets before the access doors are replaced. Inside each s•et of access doors connect
all wiring harnesses between cabinets, matching colors and numbers t~~ ensure proper
connections.
9. Replace all access doors.

MOUNTING THE SCOREBOARD
1. Connect a lift device to two places on the top angle iron of the left section assembly.
2. Lift the left section assembly into place with the bottom edge of the scoreboard at least 10'-0" off
of the ground, ensuring that the scoreboard is level. Refer to the illu~~tration below in positioning
the scoreboard left-to-right. The seam between cabinets A and 8 should be centered on the far
left I-beam.
3. Secure the scoreboard to the poles/beams using the mounting angle irons already attached to the
scoreboard. The unit must be attached to each pole or beam on top and on bottom. !f using steel
I-beams, the mounting angle irons may be welded to the supports or tl~e mounting angle irons and
supports may be drilled so that a combination of bolts, washers, and huts may be used to secure
the mounting angle irons to the I-beams. If galvanized steel poles are being used, the mounting
angle irons may either be bolted or welded to steel angles which can then be bolted through the
pole. Refer to the installation diagram below for detailed illustrations of both mounting methods.
NOTE: IF YOU PURCHASED THE OPTIONAL TOP MOUNTED SPONSOR PANEL, THE MOUNTING
POLES SHOULD EXTEND 32" ABOVE THE SCOREBOARD TO ALLOW FOR MOUNTING.

RUNNINGICONNEC'~'ING THE CONTROL CABLE
(For scoreboards with Wireless Remote Control, skip this step.)
The control cable may be buried with or without conduit if it is direct t~urial-rated. If it is not direct
burial-rated cable, then it must be buried in sealed, watertight conduit. The same is true for the
electric cable powering the scoreboard. The two may be buried in the s~~me trench but they must be
kept at least 4-6" apart. If conduit is required for both, separate conduits rnust be used.
The control cable should run from the scoreboard to a location that is within 20 feet of the
scorekeeper's location. Here, the supplied junction box cover should be installed in a 2x4, single-
gang junction box. The keyboard will connect to the receptacle on thE~ junction box cover via the
included 20-ft. control cable.
At the scorekeeper's location:
1. Bring the control cable into a 2x4 single-gang junction box located within 20 feet of the
scorekeeper.
2. Connect the leads inside the control cable to those on the junction box cover using the crimp-
on butt connectors already attached to the leads on the junction bc~x cover. Connect the leads
in the control cable to those on the junction box cover according to the label on the junction
box cover. Refer to the installation diagram on the following page for more information.
NOTE: If the colors of the wires in the control cable differ from those referenced on the label
or shown in the following diagrams, make a note of what color le~~d on the junction box cover
you connect to what color lead in the control cable. Keep this information for reference when
connecting the other end of the control cable to the terminal block inside the scoreboard.
3. Secure the junction box cover to the installed junction box.
At the scoreboard:
1. Remove the signal/power access door located on the back of the scoreboard. For access door
location, refer to the diagram on the following page.
2. From the ground, run the control cable through sealed, raintight conduit then through arain-
tight conduit fitting into the left side of the signal cable/power access door and into the
scoreboard.
3. Inside the scoreboard, connect the control cable leads to the appropriate terminals on the
terminal block, according to the label above the terminal block.
NOTE: If the colors of the wires in the control cable differ from those referenced on the label
or shown in the following diagrams, refer to the notes you made when connecting the control
cable to the junction box cover at tFre scorekeeper's location. Ensure that each lead on the
junction box cover is connected to the same color lead on the scoreboard terminal block,
regardless of the color(s) of the wires in the control cable that connect them.
4. Re-secure the signal/power access door to the scoreboard.
NOTE: Even if the control cable was not buried in conduit, it must be run in sealed, watertight,
conduit form the ground up to the signal cable/power access doo~~ located on the back of the
scoreboard. Here, it must pass through grain-tight conduit fitting where it will connect to the
signal cable terminal block inside the scoreboard. Refer to the installation diagram on page 7
for a detailed illustration.
RUNNINGICONNECTING THE ELECTRI(~AL SERVICE
NOTE: HAVE A LICENSED, QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN RUN THE ELECTRICAL
SERVICE AND CONNECT IT TO THE SCOREBOARD IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
DIAGRAM ON THE FOLLOWING PAGE. A WATERI-IGHT, NON-FUSIBLE
DISCONNECT SWITCH, A 20-AMP GROUND FAULT INTERRUPTER, AND A
SAFETY GROUND SHOULD BE INSTALLED FOR EA(~H 20-AMP CIRCUIT
CONNECTED TO THE SCOREBOARD. A 120-VOLT CIR~~UIT MUST ALSO BE
INSTALLED IN A STANDARD DUPLEX OUTLET AT THE SCOREKEEPER'S
LOCATION FOR THE CONTROLLER'S 12-VOLT DC WALL l'RANSFORMER. IF AN
EXTERNAL BATTERY PACK WAS PURCHASED WITH THE= CONTROLLER, THIS
OUTLET BECOMES OPTIONAL.
