Dear Ms. Roe:
This letter should serve to document the many methods the City of Yelm utilizes to share fair housing information with the community, including local realtors and lending institutions.
Yelm has developed a brochure relating to fair housing (copy attached) which is available throughout City Hall and has also been published on the City’s web site (www.ci.yelm.wa.us).
The brochure reviews: which housing is covered by the Fair Housing Act; prohibited acts in the sale or rental of property and lending; disability protections; requirements for new housing;
family housing requirements; and information on filing a housing discrimination complaint with HUD. The web site includes a link to the HUD website for additional information and a
direct link to the online housing discrimination complaint form. The City also maintains posters regarding the Fair Housing Act.
In addition, City staff regularly meets with the local real estate community through the Yelm Real Estate Network. Whenever the Community Development Department is asked to participate
in a YREN meeting, we review the City’s fair housing policies.
Sincerely,
Grant Beck, Director
Department of Community Development
