16901 SR 507 Heather Baker Conversations16901 SR 507 2/26/2018
Today I received two phone calls from Heather Baker in regards to the tree house and fence on the property at 16901 SR 507. Both structures do not meet code and have been deemed unsafe
structures.
During the first call Heather Baker became defensive and somewhat agitated. She felt that I was harassing her because of the amount of communication I have had with her family regarding
two properties they currently own.
The Baker’s own over 23 properties in the area and are owners of Sunrise Homes here in Yelm. I explained to her I would more than likely have more communications with them than an owner
of a single property. I also informed her that Code Enforcement for the City of Yelm has been sidelined for some time and is now manageable thanks to new hires.
She responded by demanding I take care of all the other violators in Yelm and not just her. I informed Heather Baker that she was not being singled out and that code enforcement letters
have been sent out to dozens of property owners.
She was also upset because the said structures have been in place for 3 years and couldn’t comprehend why they are a problem now. I brought to her attention the complaints from other
residents and business owners in the city about the property and how it put the tenants in the spot light. Yelm Police Department also had concerns about the safety of citizens in the
neighborhood reflected by the dozens of visits by their officers to the residence.
A half an hour later a second call from Heather Baker came in after she spoke to Officer Joel Turner about his experiences with the property and the tenants there. He conveyed the large
amount of traffic and suspicious characters that have been known to congregate at the residence all hours of the day and night.
Heather Baker has agreed to demand the tenant remove the fence and tree house structure and inform the tenant that her and her daughter are the only residents on the lease and the congregating
of people will be limited.
