Dear Ms. :
At your request, I inspected the trees located at 15773 105th Ave. that you would like to have removed.
Please understand that at the time of development of the subdivision, there were many large trees removed. As part of Yelm’s Development Guidelines, the developer was to required to
retain as many of the large trees as possible. This was a condition of approval for the subdivision There are times that we find that trees that were retained create difficulty for
property owners to create their yards, and space. Since these trees were retained by the developer to meet City requirements, the removal of these trees must be closely examined by
City Staff. The subdivision approval also required the developer to mitigate the loss of trees that they did remove.
After inspection of the site, I offer the following responses to the tree removal request that you have provided to me:
The five trees that were your first choice of removal may be removed. I see the possibility of safety concerns of your house and the neighboring properties. The trees however, should
be removed by a licensed and bonded tree removal service to assure no damage occurs to the surrounding trees and houses. If they were just “cut down”, they will fall through the other
trees, causing damage and possible future safety concerns for the damaged trees.
The request # 2 tree shall remain. I saw no immediate danger from the tree or its root system. You may wish to remove a few of the limbs that are reaching close to your home.
The request #3 tree (the tree with the triple trunk) may be removed, however the root system shall not be disturbed. Again, a licensed and bonded tree removal service shall be used
to assure the safety of the adjoining trees and houses. The stump may be ground to assure that there is no root damage to adjoining trees.
To mitigate the loss of 6 trees, you will be required to plant 6 new trees. These may be planted on your property, added to the landscaping in the storm pond area behind your home,
or a mixture of both. A minimum of 3 of the 6 trees shall be evergreen trees (fir or cedar). Trees are to be a minimum of 1.5 inch in caliper, and 6 feet in height when planted.
I appreciate your responsiveness as a homeowner within the City limits, and if you have any further questions, please give me a call at (360) 458-8496.
Sincerely,
Tami Merriman
