Location: Forrest Height Review number 4 Department: Water
Contractor: Rep:
1. The developer is responsible for the cost of the fire hydrant locks and the City of Yelm will
order and install them. The project will not be final until the City of Yelm has received the
payment in full for the fire hydrants locks.
2. At station 15 + 51 there needs to be a blow off assembly to flush out the main.
3. If there is to be a booster pump at all houses, the service tap, service line, water meter and
reduced pressure back flow assembly will need to be up sized at all the service connections.
A. Do to the lack of understanding of psi and elevation from the engineer, the City of Yelm
Water Department will NOT approve this project.
The maximum water tower elevation is 477 elevation feet (TANK IS FULL) and the projects
water main at high elevation is 415 elevation feet at top of the main. This is a 62 feet
difference and the pressure is 26.8 psi. When you add a house to this, the approximant 428.5
elevation, the difference at tank full and house is 48.5 feet, with a psi of 21 pounds. The state
requirement is 30psi static at the house. If these homes are two stories the pressure will drop
more.
B. The fire hydrant at station 6 + 84, the static pressure was calculated at 29psi.
The fire hydrant at station 11 +21.98, the static pressure was calculated at 27psi.
These two fire hydrants are NOT at fire flow conditions. Minimum pressure for a fire flow is
at 20psi.
The water tower from full, to restart of the pumps, is an eight foot drop in elevation. This is
for the winter months. In the summer months the tower elevation drop can be even more,
due to more water being used.
