PRBA Need for Heat
Thanks Steve.
Since the City’s detail is very vague and only calls out a plastic or concrete enclosure, we are proposing to use a Hot Box (HB-2) enclosure with heat tape wrapping the RPBA. Please
see the attached detail and let me know if the City will not allow this. I’m planning on sending a Change Order to the contractor this morning requesting this item to be installed.
Please note we have sized a 2” RPBA to be installed on a 3” domestic line and the attached enclosure is made for 2” and smaller lines.
Let me know if you have questions.
Thanks,
Mike Beach

Mike: The answer is NO. The RPBA has to be located directly behind the meter. Please take into consideration the possibility of the RPBA freezing and the effect it cause to Wal-mart
and advise Alton Lewis or Ryan Rantz of Bird on the requirements and suggestion for the installation. I know they have been awaiting an answer from you.
Thank you,

Steve,
Can we locate the domestic RPBA inside the building and not have to deal with the potential of freezing since this device is after the meter?
Please confirm.

Mike: I had two messages from Kevin Ray of the City of Yelm Water Department. He feels that even though it is not a requirement to put heat in the vault with the PRBA, it would be
in Wal-Mart’s best interest to do so. Given scenario: If the PRBA were to freeze at 3:00 a.m. and break, Wal-mart would be out of water and there would not be any parts available at
the local hardware store to fix it. This would be a specialty item from an out of town distributor and would take sometime to get it fixed. Given the above info, you’ll have to make
the call.
Thanks,
Steve Harrington
