RE: Wal-Mart – Project Number SPR-05-0091-YL
Requirements for Step Tank System.
Dear Mike,
The City of Yelm has completed the review of the proposed Wal-Mart Step Tank revisions. Your application included:
Construction Plans with step tank detail
We have reviewed the construction plans for compliance with the City of Yelm Development Guidelines, the Department of Ecology Criteria or Sewage Works Design Manual and National Electrical
Code.
There are some requirements that must be met before The City of Yelm Sewer Department will final and sign off the new 6,000 gallon step tank. These requirements are as follows:
Requirements:
8000 gallon tank will be subject to a 2 hour leak test with no drawdown permitted. This procedure is a requirement of all new construction for the STEP collection system. Please see
the Yelm Development Guidelines for specific requirements or contact the Yelm Sewer Dept. at 360-458-8411. This leak test shall be done following tank modification and shall include
the line in-between the tanks.
A pre-construction meeting will be required prior to commencement of the construction. The meeting shall include all engineers, Contractors, and Sub-Contractors as well as city personnel
involved in the project.
In a letter to Jim Gibson, the City engineer, dated April 10, 2008, David Jensen recommended that an effluent filter be placed on the outlet of the existing tank. The filter is not shown
on the plans dated March 4, 2009. The Sewer Department will be following the engineer’s recommendation and will be requiring
the effluent filter. Wal-mart will be responsible for maintenance and servicing of the filter along with the maintenance of the 8000 gallon tank.
The Sewer Dept. will be requiring up to date submittals on the 6000 gallon tank prior to approval. The submittals already on file are out of date and not representative of the actual
design of the tank.
Existing tank has never had a clear zone. The Sewer Dept. reserves the right to have a properly operating system following this modification to the system. Further alterations, while
not anticipated, may be needed if the system still does not operate properly.
Please review the above comments and submit updated plans. If you have any additional questions or comments please do not hesitate to call or contact me at steveh@ci.yelm.wa.us.

Respectfully,
Steve Harrington
