Thank you for dre opportunity to comment on [he determination of nonsignificance for the Today's
Dental Demolition/Construction project (SEPA No. 07-0135) located at 502 Yehn Avenue West as
proposed by BCRA. The llepartment of Ecology (Ecology) reviewed the environmental checklist
and has the following comment(s):
SOLIll WASTE & FINANCW, ASSISTANCE: Dan Farrell (360) 407b084
The applicant proposes to demolish an existing stmctnre(s). In addition to any required
asbestos abatement procedures, tho applicant should ensure that any other potentially
dangerous or hazardous materials present, such as PCB-containing lamp ballasts, Fluorescent
lamps, and wall thermostats containing mercury, are removed prior to demolition. It is
important [hat these materials and wastes ore removed and appropriately managed prior to
demolition. I[ is equally importam that demolition debris is also safely managed, especially if
it contains painted wood or wnerete, treated wood, er other possibly dangerous materials.
Please review the "Dangerous Waste Rules for Demolition, Construction, and Renovation
Wastes", posted at Ecology's website, www ecv.wa. ~o ro rg ems/hwu'~demgdebris/. The
applicant may also emrtac[ Rob Rieck of Ecology's Hazardous Waste and "fozics Reduction
Program a[ (360) 407fi75I far more inCamation about safely handling dangerous wastes and
demolition debris.
Ecology encourages property owners and cmnractnrs to recycle all possible leftover
consttuction, demolition, and land clearing (CDL) materials and reduce waste generated.
Recycling construction debris is often less expansive than landfi0 disposal. Please call
Ecology's I-800-RPCYCLE hotline for facilities in dre arcs that will aceepC your CllL
materials for reuse or recycling.
