Yage 1 of 3 Specifications Underground Fiberglass S[orage Tanks for Septic Applications Short Form Specifications The contractor shall provide the appropriate underground fiberglass storage tank and/or any optional accessories as indicated on tank drawings. Capacity, dimensions, and fining locations and sizes will also be indicatetl on tank drawings. The tank will be as manufactured by Containment Solutions, Inc. The tank will be installed according to manufacturer's current installation instructions. Long Form Specifications Part I: General 1.01 Quality Assurance A. Acceptable Manufacturers: Containment Solutions, Inc., Conroe, Texas B. Materials: The tanks shall be manufactured from a matrix of premium resin, glass fibers and silane- treated silica that together result in a composite matrix compatible with septic products. 1.02 Submittals: Contractor shall submit to engineer _ copies of shop drawings for each tank and copies of manufacturer's literature (including installation instructions). Part II: Products 2.01 Single-Wall Riberglass Underground Tanks A. Product-Storage Requirements: 1. All primary tanks must be vented. Tanks are designed for operation at atmospheric pressure only. 2. Tanks shall be capable of storing septic products not to exceed 150°F at the tank interior surface. B. Loading Conditions -Tanks shall meet the following design criteria: 1. External hydrostatic pressure: Buried in grountl with 7' of over burden over the top of the tank, the hole fully flooded and a safety factor of 5:1 against general buckling. 2. Page 2 of 3 3. Internal Load: Primary and secondary tanks shall withstand 5 psi air pressure test (3 psi for 12' diameter tanks) with 5:1 safety factor. 4. Tanks shall be designetl to support accessory equipment such as latlders, drop tubes, etc. when installed according to manufacturer's recommendations and limitations. ~. Tank laminate shall inclutle silica treated with silane. C. Interstitial Space: In all double-wall and triple-wall tanks, there shall be a space between the primary and secondary walls to allow for the free flow and containment of any leaked product from the primary tank. The space shall also allow room for the insertion of a monitoring device. 2.02 Accessories A. Anchor Straps: 1. Straps shall be standard as supplied by tank manufacturer. 2. Provide glass fiber reintorcetl plastic anchor straps for each tank shown. 3. Number and location of straps shall be as specified by manufacturer. B. Access Openings: Standard access openings are 24" diameter and shall be made of FRP. C. Optional Flanged Manways: 1. Manways are available in 22", 30", 36" and 30" oval internal diameters. 2. All manways will be furnished complete with gaskets, bolts and covers. 3. Location(s) shall be indicated on tank drawings. 4. Optional manway extensions shall be FRP. D. Fill Tubes: Fill tubes of appropriate tlesign will be supplied by contractor. E. Ladders: Latltlers shall be [he standard ladder supplied by the tank manufacturer (fiberglass, stainless steel, aluminum). Refer to drawings for locations. F. Internal Pump Platform: Contact manufacturer for details. G. Fittings: 1. Schetlule 40 PVC pipe shall be used as inlet and outlet piping. Piping will be supplied with plain ends. 2. Optional FRP nozzles shall be straight flanged antl gusseted. Bolt holes shall conform to ANSI B165, Class 150 pattern. 3. Optional steel fittings are standard half couplings which will have NPT lhreatls. 4. Flexible connectors must be used on all PVC or FRP pipe connections. Piping must be free to move with the tank. 5. All steel fittings are to be supplied with plugs. Split-Strap Anchor System: ¢ Containment Solutions can provide asplit-strap anchor =_ system for 6', 8' and 10' diameter n_,,,„e,.,,,w, Single-Wall Tanks. The split- ~ ti~ strap anchor system provides a method to attach and tighten the tank anchor straps to deadmen r~ or to an anchor patl without entry into [he excavation. The split- strap anchor system is safer and less costly than iratlitional methods that require shoring or other hole stabilization techniques [o allow entry into the excavation.
