A PROJECT DESCRIPTION The proposed Cruz Development project is located in the SE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 29, Township 17 North, Range 2 East of the Willamette Meridian in Yelm, Washington. The address is 17041 State Route (SR) 507, Yelm, WA 98597, and the parcel number is 64303200300. The property is currently zoned Arterial Commercial (AC). The project consists of developing 8.76 acres of the 9.33-acre parcel into an automotive dealership with the balance of the property dedicated to Washington State Dept. of Transportation (WSDOT) for SR 507 right-of-way and to contain the existing single-family residence at the northwest corner of the parcel. Property development will include a 12,000 square foot metal building, paved asphalt parking, driveways and display area, graveled areas for vehicle storage, and the required stormwater facilities, water and sewer utilities, and emergency vehicle access for the proposed development. EXISTING SOIL CONDITIONS A geotechnical engineering study of the existing soil conditions was performed by South Sound Geotechnical Consulting (SSGC) on February 7, 2020. SSGC observed, logged, and sampled 3 test pits ranging in depths from 6 feet to 9.5 feet below existing grade and performed one Pilot Infiltration Test (PIT). Under approximately 24 inches of topsoil, SSGC encountered native soils consisting of gravelly sand to sandy gravel with trace to some silt, cobbles and occasional boulder; the native soils were in a loose grading to a medium dense condition. SSGC identifies the primary geologic unit underlying the site and surrounding areas as Spanaway Gravelly Sandy Loam based on geologic mapping, and states that the native soils encountered are consistent with the mapped outwash soil. Groundwater was not observed in the test pits at the time of excavation, and SSGC noted that soil mottling or other indicators of shallow groundwater were not observed. SSGC installed piezometers in two of the test pits to monitor for the presence and depth of shallow groundwater. To determine soil infiltration rates, SSGC performed a small-scale PIT and a gradation analysis of soil samples taken from Test Pit #2. Using appropriate correction factors to the measured and calculated infiltration rates, SSGC recommends a long-term design infiltration rate of 17 inches per hour. SSGC forwarded soils samples to a laboratory to test for Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) and organic content; the soils’ average CEC and organic content values were 7.25 milliequivalents and 2.29%, respectively. SANITARY SEWER SYSTEMS FLOW CALCULATION & STEP TANK SIZING Sizing the STEP tank follows Section 5.10.020 of the City of Yelm’s Engineering Specifications and Standard Details dated 12/09/2019 and Section C1-10 of Dept. of Ecology’s Criteria for Sewage Works Design (Orange Book). The proposed automotive dealership will have a complement of 15 office staff. According to Table 2 of Section 5.10.020, the estimated daily 1 sewer flows for office workers is 15 gallons per day. Therefore, the estimated daily volume for the proposed use is 225 gallons per day (15 workers x 15 gallons per worker per day = 225). To determine the influent daily peak flow, the orange book recommends a peaking factor of 400% of the average daily flow. Therefore, the influent daily peak flow is 900 gallons per day. A 1,050- gallon concrete tank specifically manufactured by Sound Placement Services LLC for use in the City of Yelm will be used for this project. A detail of the tank is provided in the Appendix. STATIC HEAD, TDH AND PUMP SYSTEM SELECTION Static Head for the system from pump “off” to the existing 4-inch force main invert elevation in SR 507 is minus 6.02’ (EL.347.85 – EL.353.92 = -6.07’) because the existing 10-inch force main in SR 507 is deeper than the STEP tank. To determine Total Dynamic Head (TDH), the friction loss through the piping out to the existing 4-inch force main must first be calculated. Through published engineering standards, the following friction losses in equivalent lengths of pipe were used to calculate the total friction loss through the pipe and fittings from the STEP tank to the existing 4-inch force main (assuming flow at 10 gpm): 1. 4-inch PVC: 0.2 feet per 100 feet x 384 feet = 76.8 feet 2. 1-1/4-inch PVC: 1.6 feet per 100 feet x 25 feet = 40.0 feet 3. 4-inch 90⁰ PVC Elbow 13.1 feet 13.1 feet 4. 4-inch Gate Valve 4.0 feet 4.0 feet 5. 1-1/4-inch Ball Valve 33.0 feet 33.0 feet 6. 1-1/4-inch Check Valve 9.0 feet 9.0 feet Total Friction Loss Through Pipe and Fittings 175.9 feet Therefore, the TDH is 175.9 – 6.02 = 169.88 feet. As required by Section 5.40 of the City’s Engineering Specifications and Standard Details, the STEP pump system, including the effluent pump, pump vault, riser and control panel shall be a package system manufactured by Orenco Systems, Inc. or approved equal. For this project, a simplex (single pump) Orenco system is proposed consisting of a 4-inch high-head submersible effluent pump, Model PF100511, 1/2 HP, single-phase, 60-Hz, 115V, with a 1-1/4” discharge pipe diameter. At 10 gallons per minute nominal flow, the pump will operate at a TDH of 175 feet. The pump will be housed in a Biotube® Pump Vault, Model PVU57-1819. The vault will be 57 inches high with an internal 18” cartridge height having a filter mesh opening of 1/8”. Effluent openings into the vault will be 19” above the vault bottom. The pump control panel will be Orenco’s S-Series, Model S1IR1ROETMCT with intrinsically safe relays for 2 float switches, redundant off relay, elapsed time meter and event counter. The pump vault riser will be Orenco’s Kor Flo® 30-inch diameter ribbed PVC riser, Model RR3036+S2+12, with installed internal splice box, Orenco Model SB2, mounted within 1 foot of the riser lid. The Kor Flo® riser will be installed with grommets for both the splice box and the 1-1/4” discharge pipe. The riser for the solids chamber of the STEP tank will be Orenco’s Ultra-Rib™ Model RU2436, 24-inch diameter by 36 inches high. Both risers will be cast integrally with the tank’s concrete top. Lids for both risers will be traffic rated for HS-20 loading and shall have the words “YELM SEWER” cast into them. Lid frames and covers shall be as manufactured by EJ Group, Inc., Model 1480 30” for the solids chamber riser and 1480 36” for the pump vault riser. Both covers shall have a quarter turn paddle lock and pick slot. 2 APPENDIX 4" T 1 54" YELM 'STEP 19 a, 1050 H20 i ! 25Dow—I I II IP 24 30 pp I i I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I 'ORENCO TANK ADAPTERS; mj i i%ter%. rrL-ivi i p 'Juuu L-u.__a. 6 6' Technical Data Sheet Orenco Systems® Inc. , 814 Airway Ave., Sutherlin, OR 97479 USA • 800-348-9843 • 541-459-4449 • www.orenco.com NTD-PU-PF-1 Rev. 8.0, © 09/19 Page 1 of 4 PF Series Submersible Effluent Pumps: 1-Phase, 60-Hz, 4-inch (100-mm) Applications Our PF Series 4-inch (100-mm) Submersible Effluent Pumps are designed to transport screened effluent (with low TSS counts) from septic tanks or dosing tanks. They are constructed of lightweight, corrosion-resistant stainless steel and engineered plastics; all are field- serviceable and repairable with common tools; PF Series pumps are CSA certified to the U.S. and Canadian safety standards for effluent pumps, meeting UL requirements. Using a Pump Curve A pump curve helps you determine the best pump for your system. Pump curves show the relationship between flow and pressure (total dynamic head, or TDH), providing a graphical representation of a pump’s optimal performance range. Pumps perform best at their nominal flow rate. These graphs show optimal pump operation ranges with a solid line and show flow rates outside of these ranges with a dashed line. For the most accurate pump specification, use Orenco’s PumpSelect™ software.
