S. UPDATES—
City Administrator — Michael Grayum
• All the CARES ACT Funding has been allocated to almost 50 local businesses
to assist them through the COVID 19 Pandemic. Thank you to
Councilmembers Tad Stillwell, Tracey Wood and EJ Curry and Accounting
Assistant Kimberly Rachor for their hard work.
• Hand sanitizer is still available at the Public Works building. There is 16
gallons remaining from the 55 gallons purchased.
• We have two new members to the City of Yelm team. Yelm Police
Administrative Assistant Stephanie Calton and Executive Assistant/Customer
Service Manager Kathy Linnemeyer.
• The Ballfeld will remain open during the drainage project at Longmire Park.
• The Budget schedule will be presented at upcoming meeting.
• Thurston County Regional Council and State Legislators have been invited to
attend the last meeting in August to give an update on projects In Yelm.
Councilmember Curry attended the Senior Center "10 Weeks of Back Packs
Program for kids" and the Yelm Farmer's Market.
Councllmember Stillwell attended the South Thurston Economic Development
Initiative meeting and the Yelm Public Safety Committee meeting. Councilmember
thanked everyone that helped with the CARES ACT Business Grants program, It
has been a very successful and rewarding program.
Councilmember Wood attended the Yelm Public Safety Committee meeting and
stated there is a new Gun Shop business in Yelm.
Councilmember DePinto stated that the Economic Development Council Is
giving out grants to businesses. Councilmember DePinto continues to finalize a
weekend for the Council Retreat. There are currently 20 citizens that have signed
up for the Secure Mailbox Program and Councilmember DePinto asked If they
could store that at a central location possibly at the Public Works building and
would like to have the money sent to City Hall for safe keeping.
Councilmember Kaminski attended the Yelm Finance Committee meeting,
Bounties for Families has been approved to distribute "Farmers to Families Food
Boxes" through the Rotary for citizens in need. Councilmember Kaminski attended
the Nisqually River Council Retreat.
Mayor Foster stated the 448 Civil Affairs Unit from JBLM did an training exercise
to assist in finding resources and working with other agencies in case of a natural
or manmade event, the Mayor watched an Association of Washington Cities
webinar on the CARES ACT Relief Fund and some Cities have not dispersed their
funds yet. Mayor Foster is proud that our Council has been able to disperse the
CARES ACT Funds quickly and get that money into the hands of business owners
In need. There was an electrical fire at the Shiplap Coffee Shop last Sunday
morning. Due to the quick response from employee Colter Wevodau, Officer
Devon Taylor and Reserve Officer Mike Baker, many citizens and the SE Thurston
Fire Department, the fire was quickly put out with minimal damage.
