The TYCO CPVC Pipe and Fittings are produced from BLAZEMASTER CPVC compound that is a specially developed thermo- plastic compound composed of post chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) resin and state of the art additives. TYCO CPVC Pipe and Fittings are easier to install than traditional steel pipe systems, and at the same time, provide superior heat resistance and strength as compared to traditional CPVC and PVC piping materials used in the plumbing trade. Various adapt- ers are available to connect CPVC pipe to metallic piping. All female pipe thread adapters have brass inserts for durability. Grooved adapters connect directly to grooved end valves and metallic pipe, with flexible grooved end couplings. NOTICE The CPVC Pipe and Fittings produced with BLAZEMASTER CPVC compound described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document and with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protec- tion Association (NFPA), in addition to the standards of any authorities having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for main- taining their fire protection system and devices in proper operating con- dition. Freedom® CPVC Systems • Install product according to the manufacturer’s instructions. • Follow recommended safe work practices. • Make certain that thread sealants, gasket lubricants, or fire stop materials are compatible with BlazeMaster® CPVC. • Use only latex-based paints if painting is desired. • Keep pipe and fittings in original packaging until needed. • Cover pipe and fittings with an opaque tarp if stored outdoors. • Follow proper handling procedures. • Use tools designed for use with plastic pipe and fittings. • Use proper solvent cement and follow application instructions. • Use a drop cloth to protect interior finishes. • Cut the pipe ends square. • Deburr and bevel the pipe end before solvent cementing. • When solvent cementing, rotate the pipe 1/4 turn when bottoming pipe in fitting socket. • Always apply solvent cement to the pipe first then fitting. • Avoid puddling of solvent cement in fittings and pipe. • Make certain that solvent cement does not run and plug the sprinkler head orifice. • Follow the manufacturer’s recommended cure times prior to pressure testing. • Fill lines slowly and bleed the air from the system prior to pressure testing. • Support sprinkler head properly to prevent lift up of the head through the ceiling when activated. • Keep threaded rod within 1⁄16” of the pipe. • Install BlazeMaster CPVC pipe and fittings in wet systems only or specially listed dry systems. • Follow manufacturer'hs recommendations for freeze protection. • Allow for movement due to expansion and contraction. • Renew your BlazeMaster CPVC pipe and fittings installation training every two years. • Follow manufacturer’s recommendations on pressure testing. • Follow current NFPA standards for use of antifreeze solutions. • Do not use petroleum or solvent-based paints, sealants, lubricants or fire stop materials. • Do not use any glycol-based solutions as an anti-freeze. • Do not use both Teflon® tape and thread sealants simultaneously. • Do not use solvent cement that exceeds its shelf life or has become discolored or gelled. • Do not allow solvent cement to plug the sprinkler head orifice. • Do not connect rigid metal couplers to BlazeMaster® CPVC grooved adapters. • Do not thread BlazeMaster CPVC pipe. • Do not use solvent cement near sources of heat, open flame, or when smoking. • Do not pressure test until recommended cure times are met. • Do not use dull or broken cutting tool blades when cutting pipe. • Do not use BlazeMaster CPVC pipe that has been stored outdoors unprotected and is faded in color. • Do not allow threaded rod to come in contact with the pipe. • Do not install BlazeMaster CPVC pipe in cold weather without allowing for expansion. • Do not install BlazeMaster CPVC pipe and fittings in dry systems, unless specifically Listed for such use. • Do not use ratchet cutters below 50˚F. • Do not use edible oils such as Crisco® as a gasket lubricant. • Do not install tape, insulated wire, or The orifice design, with a K-Factor of 4.9 (70.6 metric*), allows the sprinkler’s efficient use of available water supplies for the hydraulically designed fire-protection system. The fast response glass bulb operating element and special deflector characteristics meet the challenges of residential sprinkler standards. The sprinkler is pre-assembled with a threaded adapter for installation with a low-profile small-diameter cover assembly installed flush to the ceiling. The two-piece design allows installation and testing of the sprinkler prior to installation of the cover plate. The “push-on”, “thread-off” design of the concealed cover plate assembly allows easy installation of the cover plate after the system has been tested and the ceiling finish has been applied, while also providing up to 1/2” (13 mm) of vertical adjustment. The cover assembly can be removed and reinstalled, allowing temporary removal of ceiling panels without taking the sprinkler system out of service or removing the sprinkler. The Electroless Nickel PTFE (ENT) coating has been investigated for installation in corrosive atmospheres and is C-UL-US-EU Listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval Charts. The ENT finish is only available for the sprinkler assembly, the cover plate is not plated. 2.listinGs and approvals Ul listed (c-Ul-Us-eU): Category VKKW Refer to the Approval Charts and Design Criteria on for C-UL-US-EU Listing requirements that must be followed. 3.tecHnical dataSpecifications:Minimum Operating Pressure: Refer to the Approval Chart.Maximum Working Pressure: 175 psi (12 bar). These tests cannot and do not represent all possible corrosive environments. Note: These coatings are NOT corrosion proof. Prior to installation, verify through the end-user that the coatings are compatible with or suitable for the proposed environment. Polyester and ENT coatings are applied to the exposed exterior surfaces only. Note that the spring is exposed on sprinklers with Polyester and ENT coatings. 4 When installed in some corrosive environments, the Polyester finish may change color. This natural discoloration over time is not in itself an indication of corrosion and should not be treated as such. All sprinklers installed in corrosive environments should be replaced or tested as described in NFPA 25 on a more frequent basis. OPERATION During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches. Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the heat-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb to expand and the bulb to shatter, releasing the yoke, pip-cap and sealing spring assembly. Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the sprinkler deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern to extinguish or control the fire. 6. INSPECTIONS, TESTS AND MAINTENANCE Refer to NFPA 25 for Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements. 7. AVAILABILITY Viking Sprinklers VK462 and VK463 are available through a network of domestic and international distributors. DESCRIPTION A. Sprinkler Cabinets Viking sprinkler cabinets are metal enclosures constructed to store an emergency supply of spare sprinklers and a sprinkler instal- lation wrench. NFPA 13 requires a representative number of each type and temperature rating of sprinkler head to be kept in a cabinet on the premises. NFPA 13 also requires a special sprinkler wrench to be provided in the cabinet. This allows for immediate removal and replacement of sprinklers that have operated or that have become damaged. Stock of spare sprinklers should include sprinklers of all the types and temperature ratings as are installed in the sprinkler system, in the following quantities: B. Sprinkler Wrenches Viking sprinkler wrenches are special installation tools specifically designed for use with the various Viking sprinklers and spray nozzles. The appropriate wrenches must be used with the indicated sprinklers and nozzles to provide the proper leverage when tightening sprinklers or nozzles and to minimize slippage during installation. Using wrenches other than the ones designated for installation may damage the sprinkler. Refer to Tables 2a and 2b and the ap- propriate sprinkler or spray nozzle data page for the correct installation wrenches that must be used. Wrenches 21475M/B, 10896W/B, 07297W/B, 05118CW/B, 13635W/B, and 16888M/B provide the amount of leverage needed to tighten sprinklers and spray nozzles into pipe fittings while preventing sprinkler damage. No additional tools are necessary with these wrenches. The following wrenches require a separate ½” ratchet (not available from Viking) to provide the correct amount of leverage: 08336W/B, 10366W/B, 07565W/B, 11663W/B, 13032W/B, 13577W/B, 13619, 15466, 13623W/B, 15467W/B, 15209W/R, 13655W/B, 14031, 14047W/B, 16208W/R, and 16267. The internal diameters of sprinkler wrenches 08336W/B, 10366W/B, 15209W/R, 16208W/R, and 16267 are designed for use with the sprinkler contained in the protective shell. (A protective shell should be retained in the spare sprinkler cabinet.) Wrench part number 10551W/B is required for threading institutional escutcheon plates onto institutional sprinklers. Wrench part number 10729 is a 2-1/2” (63.5 mm) C-C face spanner wrench used for removing institutional escutcheon plates from institutional sprinklers (refer to the DISASSEMBLY section of institutional sprinkler technical data pages). Wrench part number 15915 is optional for removing protective sprinkler caps and for installing E-1 and F-1 Escutcheons on frame style pendent sprinklers from the floor by attaching a length of 1” diameter CPVC tubing to the tool. Refer to Technical Bulletin Form No. 051808. 2. LISTINGS AND APPROVALS Refer to the specific sprinkler or spray nozzle technical data pages for sprinkler listings and approvals. 3.
