RE: CarStar Detail Service
Trip Generation
Dear Cody,
Thank you for your time and consideration on this project. Premier Collision CarStar is an
automobile repair service that is proposing to develop a small lot next to their business on the
main street of Yelm Avenue. The new building that they are proposing will be for performing
detailing service on cars and pickup trucks. Determining the Trip Generation for this project is
usually established through the Trip Generation Manual published by the Institute of
Transportation Engineers. Unfortunately the Manual does not have an exact or similar Land Use
Code for an automotive details service that Premier Collision CarStar is proposing. Without an
appropriate Land Use Code it will be not be easy to determine the amount of trips that this project
will generate during the peak hour period of the day between 4 and 6 PM.
To determine the amount of trips that this project will generate during peak hours, I have relied
on information that I received from the owner of this project, Matt Earsley, and from similar
businesses within the local area of Olympia and Yelm. Car Detail Specialist, LLC. on Yelm
Avenue has one stall and can detail 2 cars per day. Millennium Auto Detail service has two stalls
and is able to detail a car in 3 to 4 hours, depending on the condition of the car. Detailing cars is
not a quick process that only takes a few minutes. Detailing cars requires extensive cleaning of
everything in the car from the upholstery and floor to the dashboard, undercarriage, trunk,
windshield, and waxing the outside of the car. Matt Earsley is proposing a building with three to
four stalls for detailing service. If he has four stalls it would mean that the amount of cars he
would be able to service during the peak hour would be 4. He will also have 5 employees that
will do the detailing work. Based on this information received by Matt and other detailing
business in the area the most trips he would be generating when the project has been completed
would be 12 trips during the peak hour of day. I hope this will meet with your approval.
Please contact Bill Turner at (360) 239-2847 if you have any questions or concerns about
this project.
Respectfully,
Bill Turner, P.E.
