Resolution No. 643 - NOT APPROVED REMOVED FROM AGENDA - Support of Proposition 1 - Public Safety Tax-10.24.2023RESOLUTION NO. 643 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YELM IN SUPPORT OF THURSTON COUNTY PROPOSITION 1— SALES AND USE TAX FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT PROTECTION, CORRESPONDING PROSECUTION AND PUBLIC DEFENSE SERVICES AND ELECTIONS SECURITY WHEREAS, Thurston County Proposition No. 1— Sales and Use Tax for Law Enforcement Protection, Corresponding Prosecution and Public Defense Services and Elections Secur ("Proposition 1"), will be presented to Thurston County voters at the general election` held on November 7, 2023; and *O WHEREAS, Proposition 1 would authorize an additional sales and �rate of two- tenths of one percent for law enforcement protection, corresponding tion and public defense services, and elections security; and WHEREAS, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office is in more law enforcement officers and services to patrol the county and keep the co ity safe; and WHEREAS, Thurston County has indicated Td use up to 75% of the additional tax distribution for law enforcement protection, i hiring additional sheriff deputies and associated infrastructure and up to 25% ofribution would be used for additional prosecution and proportionate public d services, and elections security infrastructure; and `O WHEREAS, ensuring tt ection and safety of the residents of Yelm is an essential priority; and �V WHEREAS, oWo`sition 1 would have a direct economic and substantive impact on the Yelm commun s of importance and interest to a broad cross-section of Yelm residents; now, the ref. THET1l�UNCIL OF THE CITY OF YELM, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: � ,O� THAT: Resolution No. 643 is hereby approved and that the City Council is in support of Thurston County Proposition No. 1 — Sales and Use Tax for Law Enforcement Protection, Corresponding Prosecution and Public Defense Services and Elections Security, and encourages voters to approve this Proposition on November 7, 2023.
