YELM PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES
December 18, 2023 4:00 PM
YELM CITY HALL
Bob Howard called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.
Members present: Bob Howard, John Graver, Richard Lomsdale, Anne Wahrmund, Jerry Fugic,
and John Thomson.
Members Absent: Carlos Perez
Staff: Todd Stancil, Cody Colt, Gary Cooper, Chris Vaccaro, Drew Kollar, and Hazel Hooker.
Approval of Minutes: Motion by John Thomson, seconded by John Graver, to approve the
November 20, 2023 minutes. All were in favor.
City Staff Communications: Gary Cooper, Planning and Building Manager, provided a
consultant update and discussed the potential application of a 5-lot commercial development
rezone.
Public Comment: None.
New Business: Drew Kollar, Assistant Planner, followed up on discussions from the last
Planning Commission Meeting and presented two potential solutions for the development
challenges within the Central Business District Zone. Further discussion occurred between
board members and staff.
Cody Colt, Public Services Director, recognized John Thomson and presented him with a
certificate as he departs from the Planning Commission.
Public Hearing: No public hearing was held during this meeting.
Subcommittee Reports:
Parks Committee: Anne Wahrmund provided updates on the Prairie Line Trail Extension, the
City Park Stage, and the City Dog Park.
Tree Advisory Board: Chris Vaccaro announced that the City of Yelm has been recertified by
Tree City USA. The City of Yelm is now recognized for 28 years as a Tree City. Chris also shared
details about the upcoming Arbor Day celebration and art contest theme.
Adjournment: Motion by John Thomson, seconded by John Graver, to adjourn the meeting. All
were in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 4:23 PM.
