ORDINANCE NO. 573
AN ORDINANCE of the City of Yelm adding a new section to
Title 2 of Yelm's Municipal Code defining the duties of
the police chief and amending existing ordinances and
municipal code sections by changing the title of the
position identified as marshall or town marshall to
police chief and establishing an effective date.
WHEREAS, wording found in past ordinances and the Yelm
Municipal Code needs to be updated; and
WHEREAS, a definition of the powers and duties of the Yelm
Chief of Police is necessary;
NOW THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YELM, WASHINGTON, does hereby
ordain as follows:
Section 1. The following new section is added to Title 2 of the
Yelm Municipal Code:
2.18 Police Chief - Powers and Duties Authorized. The chief of
police shall be chief executive officer of the department,
responsible for the effectiveness thereof in the enforcement of
local laws and general protection and safety of the community, its
residents and visiting public. The police chief shall, subject to
the approval of the mayor and/or chief administrative officer,
promulgate such rules and regulations pertaining to the
administration of the police department as he/she may deem
necessary and proper.
The police chief shall employ, subject to the approval of the mayor
and/or chief administrative officer, such additional personnel
including auxiliary patrolmen as shall be necessary for the
protection and safety of the community.
Section 2. Each and every occurrence of the words marshall or
town marshall as identified below are hereby repealed and replaced
with the words police chief in the following listed ordinances and
corresponding Yelm Municipal Code Sections:

Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance shall become
effective five days following publication.
