15010 Mechanical15010 Mechanical PART 1 - GENERAL SUMMARY The work includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the furnishing of all labor, materials, equipment, and services necessary for, and reasonably incidental to providing and installing complete heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, exhaust systems, plumbing systems, and other mechanical work as shown or indicated in the plans and specifications. Related Sections: Consult all other sections and determine the extent and character of work specified elsewhere. COORDINATION Before submitting a bid for the mechanical work, the Contractor shall visit the site and become familiar with all the work on other related drawings and specifications, and plan the work to provide the best possible assembly of the combined work of all trades. No additional costs will be considered for work which has to be relocated due to conflicts with other trades. BUILDING LAWS Mechanical work shall conform to all requirements prescribed by governmental bodies having jurisdiction and is to be in accordance with the latest amendments and state modifications of the International Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, and the National Fire Protection Association. Should any part of the design fail to comply with such requirements, the discrepancy shall be called to the attention of the Owner prior to submitting a bid. After a Contract is awarded, if minor changes or additions are required by the aforementioned authorities, even though such work is not shown on drawings or overtly covered in this specification, they must be included at the Contractor’s expense. PERMITS AND FEES The Contractor shall obtain and pay for all permits and fees related to the Mechanical Work. Consult with owner prior to bidding to verify that the necessary permits need to be obtained. SUBMITTALS Submit manufacturer’s technical information for each type of product specified. Comply with Section 01330. The review of submittals and the taking of no exception thereto by the Engineer does not relieve the Contractor from compliance with the drawings and specifications. PART 2 - PRODUCTS MATERIALS All materials used shall be new as listed in subheadings and indicated on drawings. Inspect all materials and immediately remove defective materials from the site. PART 3 - EXECUTION DRAWINGS The drawings show the general arrangement and location of the piping and equipment. Work shall be installed in accordance with the drawings except for changes required by conflicts with the work of other trades. The Contractor shall provide for the support, expansion and pitch of any rearranged piping. Note that certain mechanical work is shown, wholly or in part, on the architectural drawings. Mechanical drawings are diagrammatic and are intended to show the approximate location of equipment and piping. Dimensions given on the plans in figures shall take precedence over scaled dimensions. All dimensions shall be verified in the field by the Contractor. The exact location of apparatus, equipment and piping shall be ascertained from the Owner or the Owner’s representative in the field, and work shall be laid out accordingly. Should the Contractor fail to ascertain such locations, the work shall be changed at the Contractor’s own expense when so ordered by the Owner. The Owner reserves the right to make minor changes in the location of piping and equipment up to the time of installation without additional cost. It is the intention of the drawings and specifications that, where certain mechanical items such as unions, expansion joints and other mechanical components are not shown, but where such items are required by the nature of the work, they shall be furnished and installed. The mechanical drawings and specifications are intended to supplement each other. Any material or labor called for in one shall be furnished and installed even though not specifically mentioned in the other. Pipe sizes shown are the minimum allowable and shall be increased in size if required by Code or wherever necessary to meet unusual conditions. “As-Built” records shall be maintained at all times, showing the exact location of mains, branches, valves, drain cleanouts, etc., installed under this section. Obtain from the Owner, at cost, a complete set of prints. On these prints, systematically and accurately, keep a dimensional record of all work installed differently than shown on drawings. Locate all stubouts and depth of bury of underground lines. Have these drawings readily available for reference. Inspector’s Approval: where a full-time inspector is employed by the Owner, the as-built information shall be reviewed by the inspector during the course of construction and shall have the inspector’s approval before submission to the Owner. Upon completion of the mechanical work, where the work is substantially different than that indicated on the bid documents, the Contractor shall obtain transparencies from the Owner, at cost, and incorporate substantial changes as noted on the “as-built” record set, including dimensions, location and depth of bury of underground lines. Deliver transparencies, with one set of prints, to the Owner. CUTTING AND REPAIRING Cutting of structural members or footing shall not be permitted without the prior written approval of the Structural Engineer. Where cutting of existing paving, walls, ceilings, etc., is necessary for the installation of the mechanical work, it shall be done under this section. Damage caused by such cutting shall be repaired to match original or adjacent surfaces without additional expense to the Owner. TESTING Test all piping and equipment as called for in this specification. Notify inspection authorities prior to the tests so that they may be witnessed. Protect all personnel and equipment during the testing. ACCESSIBILITY No unions, valves, dampers, controls or equipment shall be placed in a location which will be inaccessible after the system is complete. Access panels or doors shall be furnished and installed where necessary, Milcor style M, or approved equal. FINAL INSPECTION The contractor shall furnish the Owner with certificates of final inspection and approval from the Inspection Authorities having jurisdiction. STORAGE Provide proper protection and storage for all items and tools required for this work. QUALITY OF WORK The quality of all work shall be a standard generally accepted in the respective trade. Use only experienced, competent and properly equipped works. Replace work falling below this standard as directed by the Owner. GUARANTEE The Contractor shall guarantee the quality of all work, equipment and materials for a period of one year from the date of acceptance of building. Should any defect occur during this period, the Contractor shall promptly repair or replace defective items as directed by the Owner, without cost to the Owner. - End of Section
