The Community Development Department has reviewed your application for a sign
st
permit for your business, Organic Friendly Farms at 305 1Street South, Unit 4 in Yelm.
At the time the City reviewed and approved the business license for your business, you
described the nature of the business as “products to help grow organic foods”. The sign
permit that you submitted to the City, however, indicatesthat your business specializes
in product(s)that would be considered controlled substances and drug paraphernalia
under RCW 69.50 et. seq., the sale of which would be a violation of that chapter.
In light of this additional information, the City is requesting a full and complete
description of your business which shall include what inventory will be maintained upon
the premisesand how it will be marketed. Upon receipt of this information, a decision
will be made as to whether your business license will be revoked.
If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please contact the Community
Development Department at 458-3835.
Sincerely,
Grant Beck, Director

Ms. Sills
Thank you for the additional information you submitted in support of your sign permit for
Organic Friendly Farms.
At the time the City reviewed and approved the business license for your business, you
described the nature of the business as “products to help grow organic foods”, but a
subsequent sign permit application indicatedthat your business specializes in
product(s)that would be considered controlled substances and drug paraphernalia
under RCW 69.50 et. seq., the sale of which would be a violation of that chapter.
As requested, you provided additional informationabout the inventory maintained upon
the premises and how it will be marketed. After review of this documentation, it appears
that your intention is not to violate Chapter 69.50 RCW and the City will not revoke your
business license at this time. The sign permit, however, will be denied and any similar
sign may not be placed on the exterior of the building.
The City of Yelm understands that State and Federal Laws surrounding medical
marijuana are in a state of flux, as well as the interpretation of these laws. However, the
City has and will continue to narrowly construe and enforce existing laws. If it is
determined that any business within Yelm is operating as a medical marijuana
dispensary or storefront for a collective garden, the City will pursue action both civilly
and criminally, as allowed by law.
If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please contact the Community
Development Department at 458-3835.

Grant Beck, Director
