Based on this provision of the code, your development is required to supply paved parking
based on the current uses, even though it exceeds the minimum parking requirements
The City of Yelm requests that you expeditiously prepare a plan that you can discuss with us
regarding the expansion of parking areas. The City is willing to review a temporary parking
plan that provides flexibility in the location at your next building.

Re: Gravel Parking Areas
Dear Gary.
Thank you for yew recent letter regarding the gravel "parting" areas
We would be very happy to sit down and talk to you about the "expansion" but feel it is little premature.
We have been working toward finalizing sorne things this year but are art quite there yet. Margaret feels
like we would have a clearer picture by the end of this year
I'm sure you understand that in a development of Plus size we don't want add paving that would cost many
thousands of dollars until the building footprints and other details are locked down.
Most importantly, according to the information that the City provided the architects with, we currently
exceed the number of required paved parking spaces. The two buildings combined have a minimum of an
extra forty! spaces.
We did pm gravel on the front pad next to the Library that fronts Yelm Ave. E. We have neither
encouraged nor discouragod parking on that pad site. There are an demarcations of any kind to indicate that
area is to be used for parking. The gravel was put there for dust control in the summer months and mud
control during the winter months until that pad develops. As you are aware patrons and employees of the
"E" building have parked there from the beginning. There are a number of reasons for this. It is primarily
due to the large amount of traffic generated by the Library and its programs. The large tree on that comer
also provides shade on his days.
The Gravel area by the Cinemas is used by Cinema and Casa Min employees to help free up space in the
paved parking areas when there are large turnouts for the movies and restaurant. We thought am was
preferable than spilling out into the neighborhoods. It has now become a habit for employees to park them.
It is also somewhat hard to predict with certainty when those heavy evenings will occur. Again, please
remember we already exceed your mimmurrt paved parking requirements.
We remain open in other solutions you may have and look forward to discussing these issues with you.
Sincerely
ohn G. Thompson

Re: Gravel Parking Areas
Dear John,
Thank you for your prompt reply regarding parking on the gravel areas next to the
Cinema and Building E. The success of the Cinema and the Building E complex has
been a source of community pride and the City of Ye]m,appreciates the care and effort
you have invested in the development. Unfortunate Ws success has created the need
for patrons and employees to use off pavement parking.
