Re: Palisades West Booster Station and Pressure Sustaining Valve Equipment Submittal
Dear Karen:
We have completed review of the equipment submittal by KPFF for the Palisades West Booster Station and Pressure
Sustaining Valve received in our office March 6,2013.All references to"the report"are referencing the"Palisades
West—Water Booster Pump Station Project Report dated July 30, 2012."All references to the"design drawings"
are referencing the"Palisades West Booster Pump Station Drawings dated 7-30-2012."We have the following
comments based on our review:
Offsite Station Tab:
1. For the Offsite Pressure Sustaining Valve Station, the valve covers shall state"Sewer,"not"Water"as
submitted.
2. Confirm where the 6-inch Gravity Sewer SDR35 PVC will be used.
3. Confirm submitted red rubber gasket pipe type and function. The submitted gasket material is for"low
pressure—heating and plumbing..."Confirm material with pipe manufacturer and show that the gasket
material meets or exceeds the performance requirements.
Pump Skid Tab:
4. For the Grundfos Model CR 20-3 pump, the Product No.and letter code for the submitted pump do not
match the Product No.and letter code in the report.The rated flow and rated head appear to be adequate;
however, confirm that the appropriate accessories and appurtenances are being provided.
5. For the Grundfos Model CR 90-1 pump, the letter code for the submitted pump matches the code in the
report;however, the Product No. for the submitted pump does not match the Product No.of the pump in the
report. Confirm that the appropriate accessories and appurtenances are being provided.
6. For the Grundfos Model CR 90-1 pump, the submitted pump curve shows a duty point of 375 gpm at 45 feet
of TDH,which is not relevant to this project. Confirm that two CR 90-1 pumps can provide 867 gpm at
98.1 feet of head as shown and required in the report.

7. Resubmit 2-inch check valve for the CR 20-3 pump. The submitted check valve is a Flowmatic model 888
and the model required on the design drawings is Apco Series 300.
8. Confirm that pressure gauges and pressure transducers are being provided on the suction and discharge
manifolds as required per the report and design drawings.
9. Change Booster Pump Skid pressure gauge maximum pressure range to range that is approximately
150 percent of normal operating pressure.Do not supply compound gauges(30 inches Hg)unless required
by pressure. 30 inches Hg to 1,000 psi gauges do not provide useful information.
10. Pressure transmitters indicate number of exact model number for the units being provided.
11. The`Booster Pump Skid Dimensions"page did not print correctly. Reprint and resubmit this page to
confirm the booster pump skid dimensions.
12. Provide confirmation that the booster pump skid System Type is the same as previously submitted.
13. Provide O&M manuals in printed form.
Controls and Telemetry Tab:
14. The report and design drawings require a"100 cfin E►aust Fan Ducted to Exterior with Remote Timer."
The submittal does not provide enough information to deternune if the submitted fan can perform the
established requirements. Submit size, type, location, and lengths of ducting for fan and the fan performance
curve.Provide pressure loss calculations to show conformance to the established requirements.
15. Submit information on 1,500 W heater to be provided as required in the report and on the design drawings.
16. Please provide confirmation that control and VFD panels are being provided with LJL-508A label.
17. Provide ARC Flash Calculation for VFD Panel.
18. Provide written control strategy for PLC programming. Include any controls such as security, generator
stepping,etc.
19. Add Inputs to PLC for ATS:Utility source available,Generator Source Available,Operating on Utility
Source,Operating on Generator Source,ATS not in Auto, and ATS Fail to Transfer.
20. Add Generator: rumiing,warning, failure,not in auto,low fuel level,and tank leak detection.
Plumbing Tab:
21. No comments.
Generator Submittal:
22. Resubmit generator drawings. The drawings were not printed correctly.
23. Provide Generator sizing calculations include steps in sizing that are required in the PLC.
24. Provide outputs contacts from ATS for PLC: Utility source available,Generator Source Available,
Operating on Utility source,Operating on Generator Source,ATS not in Auto, and ATS Fail to Transfer.
25. Provide Generator outputs for Generator running, warning, failure, not in auto, and low fuel level.
26. Confirm that generator fuel tank is being provided to include NFPA 30 spill protection device, 90 percent
fill alarm and venting.

27. Contractor to provide fuel for testing and training.
28. Provide O&M manuals in printed form.
Electrical Submittal: NO SUBMITTAL PROVIDED
Provide submittals for the following:
29. Electrical Building Plan confirming that the building is large enough for all of the electrical equipment being
provided. Show actual sizes of Controls and VFD panels, panel board, and transformers.Include NEC and
Arc Flash clearances.
30. Commodity Items: conduit,wire,boxes,receptacles,grounding,etc.
31. 208 V power distribution plan/one-line for Building Power supply feed. Include submittals for all
equipment,meter base,disconnect, switchboard,etc.Note that the VFD panel alone has 225 A breaker.
32. VFD Harmonic Mitigation calculations and equipment being provided.
33. PSE Application for service based on actual station design.
34. Panel Board with circuit loading and load calculations include all loads lighting, heating, generator, controls,
and power.
35. Utility transformer.
36. Ventilation system heat load calculation and cooling system sizing for heat from VFD.
37. Building heater or unit heater.
38. Freeze protection equipment if supplied.
39. Interior and exterior light lighting fixtures.
40. Building and Site lighting plan showing fixtures planned and light intrusion.
41. Building security provisions such as intrusion switches, alarms, etc.
42. Telemetry Antenna aiming and mounting plan.
43. Site plan to show proposed generator foot print.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this project for you. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.
