CONFORMANCE
All material and construction methods shall conform to Chapter 246 -260 WAC,
"Water Recreation Facilities published by the Washington State Department
of Health (latest edition) as modified by the local agency having jurisdiction.
WALKWAYS
4' foot minimum width, concrete, non —slip finish, sloped to drain away from
pool (By Others).
BARRIERS
Barrier protection shall be provided to prevent unauthorized access to pool
facilities including:
A. A barrier of sixty inches or more in height:
1. Not allowing passage of four —inch diameter sphere;
2. If it has horizontal members that are spaced less than forty —five
inches between the tops of the horizontal rr) embers, shall have
spaces between the vertical members no greater than a width of
one and three — quarter inches; or
3. If it has horizontal members that are spaced at, or more than,
forty —five inches between the tops of horizontal members, shall
have spaces between the vertical members no greater than a
four —inch width.
4. Lockable gates and entrances provided with a self — closing,
self — latching mechanism sixty inches or more from the
ground with a clear space fifty inches deep on the latch side of
door to position a wheelchair. When a latcning mechanism is
provided at any lower height, the latching miechanism shall be of
a type remaining continuously locked, and only opening with the
use of a key or other access control systenm
B. An entrance to the pool area shall not serve as a required exit from
another part of a building when there is a conflict with other codes
or regulations.
C. The door to the equipment room shall be lockable and locked when
not in use.
STEPS
Edge of pool steps shall be of contrasting color from body of pool. Steps
shall be of non —slip tread finish. Riser shall have a rninimum
unobstructed, horizontal ten —inch tread depth and a mlinimum two— hundred
forty square inch surface area. Pool risers shall have on uniform height
between 7.5 inches (preferred) and 10 inches, except for the bottom riser
which may be plus or minus 2 inches of the uniform Iheight. Spa risers shall
be similar to those for the pools, except for the bottom riser which may
be less than uniform height.
ENERGY CODE
Provide pool /spa equipment, covers, piping insulation, anotors, etc. in
accordance with the applicable portions of WSEC Chapters 11 through 20.
COVERS
Provide cover in accordance with WSEC Section 1454 for pool facilities
heated to 90'F or greater.
PIPING
Plastic, 1 -1/2" minimum diameter unless otherwise noted; Type 1 PVC
Schedule 40, solvent weld. All piping must be bedded and backfilled per the
manufacturers recommendations.
GENERAL NOTES
HOSE BIBBS
Provide bibbs with vacuum breakers adjacent to walks. (By Others)
WASTE WATER
To be disposed of through air gap. The air gap shall be a minimum of
two times the filter waste pipe diameter.
FLOOR DRAIN
Zurn #3245 floor sink or equal, backwash line to terminate above grate, as
noted above.
MAKE —UP WATER
If not otherwise provided for in the drawings, make —up water shall be
provided by hose bibb located in pool deck area by Owner. Vacuum breaker
protection shall be provided. Provide water supply to equipment room protected
with state approved reduced pressure backflow prevention device.
HEATER
Install in accordance with the National Electrical Code and the Uniform
Mechanical Code, as applicable. Locate so any starting pilot and on /off switch
is readily accessible. Conform to Tables 14 -1A through 14 -1G as applicable.
Provide controls to regulate temperature from maximum design setting down to
65' F. Locate controls in area inaccessible to users. Lock out after setting.
LIGHTING
Provide not less than 30 foot — candles intensity measured at the surface of
indoor pools and spas; 10 foot — candles for outdoor facilities; 10 foot — candles
for pool deck; 20 foot — candles for locker rooms, equipment rooms
and restrooms. Provide protective shielding. Indoor pools shall have
emergency lighting per UL 924. (By Others)
VENTILATION (As Applicable)
Provide ventilation conforming to the ASHRAE pool facility standards for
indoor facilities.

SHOWER FACILITY
Provide means to prevent maximum temperature from exceeding 110' F.

EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT (By Others)
During the period the facility is open for use, the following is
required:
A. Telephone within one minute access.
B. Standard 16 unit first —aid kit and blanket reserved for emergency
use.
C. Provision of a clearly marked emergency shut off switch for turning
off all pumps. Switch shall be equipped with an audible alarm
to alert others at the area of the facility. The switch shall be
accessible to the public and located within 20 feet of the spa.
SIGNAGE AND TESTING EQUIPMENT
Provide signage and testing equipment in conformance with applicable
regulations. (By Others)
EQUIPMENT
Proper housing to protect equipment shall be provided (By Others).
CHEMICAL STORAGE
Store chemicals in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements to
minimize health and safety risks. Provide separate room from pool
equipment room when feasible. (By others)
OPERATION OF POOL
It is the owner's responsibility to operate in compliance with rules and
regulations of the Washington State Department of Health.
DISABILITY ACCESS
Provide "person with disability" access per applicable regulations. (By
Others)

BACKFLOW PREVENTION
Provide non — atmospheric backflow prevention devices on plumbing fixtures
connected to the potable water system which serve the pool related facilities.
INSULATION
Provide insulation on exposed recirculation system within the contained
space per Washington State Energy Code (WSEC) Section 504.7 for pool
and facilities heated to greater than 105'F.
