Dear Ms. Merriman,
I hereby submit my comments regarding the application by Tractor Supply to demolish
Del's Farm Supply and construct a larger warehouse size Tractor Supply business in
Yelm.
I ask the Community Development Department and the Planning Department to deny
this application and to deny any Permits for Del's Farm Supply to change to Tractor
Supply Store Warehouse.
This size business would knock out many locally owned and managed businesses in Yelm and make Yelm even more of a "Ghost
Town" with empty malls and buildings all over town. Just like when Walmart opened, Radio Shack closed, QFC closed and left a
large empty building for years, and eventually Yelm Hardware Store had to close.
Some of the businesses that would be threatened by a large warehouse farm, tool, lawn and garden supply, clothing, outdoor
power, livestock and pet store are:
Sunbird's
Yelm Farm & Pet Supplies
Gordon's Garden Center
Tools West
J &I Power Equipment
Mountain Lumber
Yelm Food Cooperative that is housed inside Gordon's Garden Center
Jason's Nursery
McKenna Garden Center
These local businesses bank in the area, spend money in the area, and employ a lot of people who live here and spend their money
here. Another large warehouse store from outside the area will not keep its money here, or spend its money here; Tractor Supply
income will go directly out of town to corporate accounts.
I do not want another large corporate owned warehouse store in Yelm at this time. Our local businesses cannot afford this. Many
people in the Yelm, Rainier area want more locally owned businesses, local production, local small farms, and local development of
what people need. We do not want Yelm reduced to only big warehouse stores stocked from China.
The City of Yelm made a big mistake not being business friendly to "Ice Chips ". Don't make this mistake in reverse with Tractor
Supply Store warehouse. It is not the right kind of growth because it would be destructive to the local stores where we love to shop.
We want to keep our locally owned stores where service is great, and questions are answered.
The City of Yelm must have a Public Hearing on this. If you accept the Tractor Supply application without a Public Hearing to the
detriment of the above list of local businesses, the present city government of Yelm will be in serious trouble with the public, the
people who live, work and shop here in Yelm.

We have chosen Yelm to put down roots, raise our families, and support our neighbors and businesses. We do
NOT want another big box store in our town. Please do NOT allow any more big companies to disrupt the
livelihoods of our friends, our neighbors, our families and ourselves. Do NOT add to the traffic problem we
already have here.
Please help Yelm by supporting the people who live here, and not by the lure of another "tax base" that destroys
why we have chosen to live here.

I am voicing my opposition for approval of the planned Tractor Supply store that is desiring a
place of business in Yelm. I, like many others do not like the direction the city of Yelm has gone.
Yelm is starting to look like Spanaway, filled with box and chain stores that in the end do not
attract business to the area. I would hope Yelm would favor small local businesses over the these
big ventures. Local people have a concern for the community that goes beyond the profit motive.
It's what makes a community a community. I'd rather spend my money at a business owned and
operated by local people. Like Yelm Farm and Pet, Sunbirds, Gordon's, Jason's, etc. etc. I urge
the city of Yelm to seriously think about the consequences of allowing these big interests and
their big money into the community. Some things are more important than money.

I have left a message on your phone but this is my formal request, in writing, that the City

Again, I am requesting a Public hearing for this issue.

THE 15 -DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD ENDS AT 5:00 PM ON JANUARY 20,
2015.
Dear Tami.
I just read about the plan to add'Tractor Supply" to our city of Yelm. I am concerned and do not want another
big company in our wonderful town. I just drove down into town this weekend and saw how empty'Gordons
Garden Center' looks. I hope it can make it as I know the business is struggling since Walmart opened. For over
20 years, I have shopped at Gordon's and have had a tradition of getting my land a holiday gift New Years Eve
with my Cleo Bucks I collected in the spring.
i enjoy going to family owned stores like Walts Tire. He is so helpful, knowledgeable and always with a good
word and smiles. When his competition came to town, I still go to Walts and encourage others to do so.
Occasionally, I go out of town if I need something not carried around here. BUT, I shop in town and avoid 'big'
store about 90% of the time, or more. I love our diversity and creativity of our little shops. I love our home
town friendliness, deals, and quality product. I love that we have a Co -op, beautiful and unique gift shops and I
always go to these instead of Walmart.
My son moved to this area recently and had a prescription filled at Tim's. He was so surprised, it is a regular
medicine he has had to purchase for several years and Tim's had the best price.
Let's continue to add character, support family owned businesses, and invite creative new businesses to our
area, not Big Stores. We do not need to look like Span -a -way loop area as we drive down the main road.
Please add my comments to the decision making team.
Thank you for your time in this matter.

It is disturbing to think that the City of Yelm would consider approving the addition of
Tractor Supply without considering the impact it would have on other older, more established
businesses in Yelm:
7 & I Supply, Yelm Farm & Feed, and most importantly: Sunbirds.
Surely the City has a vested interest in keeping these long -term businesses in place without
forcing them to close their doors from new competition.
And if these stores close and /or lay off their existing employees, how is this helping our
local economy.
While it can be argued that Tractor Supply may provide jobs, most of them will be minimum
wage positions.
This seems to me to be an extraordinarily unwise decision for the City Council to make. A
Public Hearing would appear to be more in order here.

We do NOT want to see Sunbirds, Yelm Farm and Pet, J and I Power Equipment and Mountain

Supply. It is not the right kind of growth because it would be destructive to the local
stores where we love to shop. We want to keep our locally owned stores where service
is great and questions are answered.
The City of Yelm must have a Public Hearing on this. If you accept the Tractor Supply
application without a Public Hearing to the detriment of the above list of local
businesses, the present government of Yelm will be in serious trouble with the citizens of
Yelm, the people who live, work and shop here in Yelm.
My vote is for the City of Yelm to make a commitment to creating a strong local
economy not dependent upon corporate interests.

Re: Tractor Supply Project Permit Application, January 5, 2015
Dear Ms. Merriman,
This would be awful for Yelm as it would eventually close many well liked, family owned local businesses. We do not need any more
bigger type stores. It is bad enough we have bank after bank after bank and now a new one being built. We need local business and
variety. Please do not allow this type of larger corporate growth in Yelm. As shown below in the email there are many loved
businesses that will suffer or eventually close if this happens.
I hereby submit my comments regarding the application by Tractor Supply to demolish Del's Farm Supply and
construct a larger warehouse size Tractor Supply business in Yelm. I request a Public Hearing on this matter.
I request the Community Development Department and the Planning Department deny this application and to
deny any building Permits for Del's Farm Supply and /orTractor Supply to build a big box store in Yelm.
This size business would knock out many locally owned and managed businesses in Yelm and make Yelm even
more of a "Ghost Town" with empty malls and buildings all over town. Just like when Walmart opened, Radio
Shack closed, QFC closed and left a large empty building for years, and eventually Yelm Hardware Store had to
close and is still empty.
I would like to see Yelm start to revive and create a uniquely distinct look of culture, to not look any other
"cookie-cutter" big box stores and strip mall towns that you can find anywhere lacking character, integrity and
identity.
Some of the businesses that would be threatened by a large warehouse farm, tool, lawn and garden supply,
clothing, outdoor power, livestock and pet store are but not limited to:
Sunbirds
Yelm Farm and Pet Supplies
Gordon's Garden Center
Yelm Food Cooperative (that is housed inside Gordon's Garden Center)
Tools West
J & I Power Equipment
Mountain Lumber
Jason's Nursery
Mckenna Garden Center
for starters
These local businesses bank in town, spend money in town, and employ a lot of people who live here and spend
their money here. Another large warehouse store from outside the area will not keep its money here, nor
spend its money here. Tractor Supply income will go directly out of town to corporate accounts.
I do not want another large corporate owned warehouse in my town. Our local businesses cannot afford this,
and I don't want it. Many people in the Yelm, Rainier area want more locally owned businesses, local
production, local small farms, and local development of what people need and want. We do not want Yelm

Some of the businesses that would be threatened by a large warehouse farm, tool, lawn
and garden supply, clothing, outdoor power, livestock and pet store are but not limited
to:
Sunbirds
Yelm Farm and Pet Supplies
Gordon's Garden Center
Yelm Food Cooperative (that is housed inside Gordon's Garden Center)
Tools West

J & I Power Equipment
Mountain Lumber
Jason's Nursery
Mckenna Garden Center
...for starters
These local businesses bank in town, spend money in town, and employ a lot of people
who live here and spend their money here. Another large warehouse store from outside
the area will not keep its money here, nor spend its money here. Tractor Supply income
will go directly out of town to corporate accounts.
I do not want another large corporate owned warehouse in my town. Our local
businesses cannot afford this, and I don't want it. Many people in the Yelm, Rainier area
want more locally owned businesses, local production, local small farms, and local
development of what people need and want. We do not want Yelm reduced to only big
box warehouse stores stocked from China. We deserve a better quality of life.
The City of Yelm made a big mistake not being business friendly to "Ice Chips ". You
now have a chance to start to redeem yourself with how you handle things with Tractor
Maybe this would be a good time for all of us to remember Article 1 Declaration of Rights
Section 1 from the Washington State Constitution: POLITICAL POWER is inherent in the
people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and

Dear Ms. Merriman,
I hereby submit my comments regarding the application by Tractor Supply to demolish
Del's Farm Supply and construct a larger warehouse size Tractor Supply business in
Yelm. I request a Public Hearing on this matter.
I request the Community Development Department and the Planning Department deny
this application and to deny any building Permits for Del's Farm Supply and /orTractor
Supply to build a big box store in Yelm.
This size business would knock out many locally owned and managed businesses in Yelm
and make Yelm even more of a "Ghost Town" with empty malls and buildings all over
town. Just like when Walmart opened, Radio Shack closed, QFC closed and left a large
empty building for years, and eventually Yelm Hardware Store had to close and is still
empty.
I would like to see Yelm build some character by reviving and creating
a unique character, a culture, not the plastic cookie - cutter /big box
store /strip -mall type town that is becoming 'Everywhere, USA'. Towns
that you can find anywhere, lacking character, integrity and identity.

I would like to see Yelm build some character by reviving and creating
a unique character, a culture, not the plastic cookie - cutter /big box
store /strip -mall type town that is becoming 'Everywhere, USA'. Towns
that you can find anywhere, lacking character, integrity and identity.
Some of the businesses that would be threatened by a large warehouse farm, tool, lawn
and garden supply, clothing, outdoor power, livestock and pet store are but not limited
to:
Sunbirds
Yelm Farm and Pet Supplies
Gordon's Garden Center
Yelm Food Cooperative (that is housed inside Gordon's Garden Center)
Tools West
J & I Power Equipment
Mountain Lumber
Jason's Nursery
1
Maybe this would be a good time for all of us to remember Article 1 Declaration of Rights

Subject: Tractor Store App.
Dear Tami,
I have moved here from Minnesota and lived close to a Tractor Store. We did shop there a
little but it was not a good selection of products. Very limited choices. Mostly western
style of clothing. Sunbirds has a much better selection of shoes and clothes. Bird seed was
in very large packages but not great for handling and not that good of prices.
All in all I would not choose to shop there if it did come and I feel you would be making a
mistake to allow it to happen.
Some very nice things are starting to change here and I would like to see it all keep going
and keep everyone involved. You have some very good business people here.
We are very glad we moved here in 2012.

Dear Ms. Merriman,
I hereby submit my comments regarding the application by Tractor

Subject: Tractor Supply Concerns
Ms. Merriman,
it has come to my attention that Tractor Supply has applied for a permit to tear down Del's Farm Store and
build a larger warehouse /store. This may not be true in totality, but, at least in supposition. I am not
concerned with competition, it invokes innovation and hopefully, better customer service. I am not against it
building a warehouse in the area, simply not where Del's is currently situated.
My greatest concern is the traffic issue. Adding the amount and kind of traffic that a warehouse would
generate would have to be critically analyzed before any decisions were made. Has there been a feasibility
study or a SWOT analysis of the the business and its effect on our town's greatest bottleneck? We have a
brand new apartments complex, a extremely busy shopping area, traffic to JBLM and to the Bald Hills all
intersecting at this point.
I submit that you arrange a public hearing so we may all participate in understanding how this construction
will affect our city and, our day -to -day life. Perhaps you will be able to alleviate some of our concerns by
showing how traffic mitigation may be accomplished.
I thank you for your time and consideration of what I have expressed in this e -mail and look forward to
hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Julia Hicks

Dear Ms. Merriman,
I would like to submit a statement of oppostion to the proposed tractor supply warehouse store being
proposed for location in Yelm. I live in the Bald Hills, and travel to Yelm almost daily to shop at the
local businesses. I have patronized many smaller locally owned stores in Yelm for farm and land
related supplies and equipment for many years, and feel that these local stores add character and
stability to Yelm, and support the local economy.
I feel a large warehouse store owned by an out of area company in Yelm will displace much of the
business that now goes to J & I, Sunbirds, Mountain Lumber, Dels, Yelm Farm Supply, and others.
I believe my views are held by many of my neighbors and friends in the Yelm area, and want to
express my strong view that this is not in the best interest of Yelm, or the residents of Yelm and the
surrounding area. Please record my view that it should not be approved.
Thanks you very much.

stores where we love to shop.
Maybe this would be a good time for all of us to remember Article 1 Declaration of Rights
Section 1 from the Washington State Constitution: POLITICAL POWER is inherent in the
people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and
are established to protect and maintain individual rights.
Thank you,

Tractor supply
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to voice my opposition to the proposed application of Tractor Supply. We here in Yelm do not need nor do
we want another big box store. We have several small businessesw that fill the needs of this community quite well.
Big box stores may seem to be a good idea but they ignore the fact that our local businesses fill the needs of this
community at good wages for the employees. Big box stores are low wage and non local, taking money out of our
community to a corperate headquarters somewhere. The emplyees of the businesses that currently supply our
community are our friends and neibors. Lets keep it that way. The best way to show support for the LOCAL business
community is by keeping it local. Please turn down this application and support our friends and neibors. Thank You
David Raphael, Yelm Wa.

Re: Tractor Supply Project Permit Application, January 5, 2015
Dear Ms. Merriman,
I hereby submit my comments regarding the application by Tractor Supply to demolish
This size business would knock out many locally owned and managed businesses in Yelm
and make Yelm even more of a "Ghost Town" with empty malls and buildings all over
town. Just like when Walmart opened, Radio Shack closed, QFC closed and left a large
empty building for years, and eventually Yelm Hardware Store had to close and is still
empty.
I would like to see Yelm start to revive and create a uniquely distinct look of culture, to
not look any other "cookie- cutter" big box stores and strip mall towns that you can find
anywhere lacking character, integrity and identity.
Supply. It is not the right kind of growth because it would be destructive to the local
stores where we love to shop. We want to keep our locally owned stores where service

Re: Tractor Supply Project Permit Application, January 5, 2015
Dear Ms. Merriman,
Sorry this is late coming in but my previous emails were all returned as undeliverable.

Yelm and the surrounding environs exist in a delicately balanced state barely keeping our heads above water.
The populace is not large enough to support another out- of- towner, mega corporation. Before even considering
such a move, one should see who this action will help and who it will harm.
Corporations notoriously have no soul, and no consideration for the people they abuse and use up as mere
commodities. Corporations follow the rules of war: sweep in, rape, plunder, and remove all profits from the
locale.
We lost Radio Shack, QFC, and Yelm Hardware Store when Walmart was brought in against multiple protests.
The war mentality writes off such losses as "collateral damage ", but these small businesses were part of the
heart of our economy. This latest ill advised scheme would endanger what is left of our heart:
Sunbirds
Yelm Farm and Pet Supplies
Gordon's Garden Center
Yelm Food Cooperative (in Gordon's Garden Center)
Tools West
J & I Power Equipment
Mountain Lumber
Jason's Nursery
Mckenna Garden Center
All of these businesses employ local people, who spend their earnings locally, thereby increasing the economic
base of the community.
This proposed big box business would throw many more people out of work than will be employed at slave
labor wages, i.e., more people will need food stamps and /or lose their residences and increase homelessness;
What reason could be advanced that would even make it possible to consider opening up our beautiful locale to
such marauders, unless of course, someone, or many someones stand to make a very large payoff for opening
the door ? ?? The big question is "Who is pushing for this and what do they stand to gain on such a deal "?
If we don't want to wind up like Detroit, a ghost town, with empty malls and buildings all over, we need to take
appropriate action to revive and create a unique culture, not look any other "cookie- cutter" strip mall towns that
you can find anywhere lacking character, integrity and identity.
Our local businesses bank in town, spend money in town, and employ a lot of people who live here and spend
their money here. I do not want another large corporate owned warehouse in my town. There is no good reason

Tax growth is not real growth when it is destructive to the local stores where we love to shop. We want to keep
our locally owned stores where service is great and questions are answered.
The City of Yelm must have a Public Hearing on this. If you accept the Tractor Supply application without a

I vote for the City of Yelm to make a commitment to creating a strong local economy not dependent upon nor
influenced by outside corporate interests.
