Fats, oils, and greases entering the City of Yelm STEP sewer system can adversely
affect the operation of the plant and the City requires all appropriate measures to avoid
fats, oils and greases from entering the system. Section 13.08.090 Yelm Municipal
Code requires an appropriately sized grease interceptor to be installed prior to the
STEP tank.

Dear Mr. Riddall:
The Community Development Department has reviewed your application for a home occupation to
operate a roofing and roof cleaning business.
Chapter 18.65 YMC (attached) lists design standards for a home occupation, and I would like to take this
opportunity to restate some of those requirements.
To qualify as a home occupation:
• The person(s) must reside in the home.
• Home occupations shall occupy not more than 25% of the total floor area of the residence, or
500 square feet in an accessory building.
• No merchandise or stock in trade may sold or displayed on any exterior portion of the premises.
• Traffic generated by home occupations shall not exceed 3 commercial vehicles per week, and all
parking of customers or clients vehicles shall be off street.
• Wall mounted signs shall not exceed four square feet in area, and cannot be internally
illuminated.
