Subject: Re: Letter to Mr. Beck
Hello Mr. Carlson,
our intent is to have chickens that we want to own, considered household pets by this definition:
The Zoning Code does not define pets'. Therefore we can look to the other definitions
in the City Code for guidance. The Animal Control Code defines "Pet Animal" at Section
6.08.030 (S) as:
"Pet animal" means any species of wild or domestic animal sold or retained for the purpose of being kept for
pleasure, companionship or utilitarian purposes and not kept as a food source.
we dont want the chickens as a food source but as a family pet, that is what we are hopeing to get decided, i
understand you cannot change the law, but it is a little bit hazey there and i would hope that you would see fit to
see our side of the story on this issue, thank you for your consideration Mr. Carlson.
Best Regards

Mr. Lyle,
I talked with you last Friday regarding your speaking with Mr. Beck. I have been assigned to work with you on
your issue of raising poultry within the City Limits of Yelm. First of all do you understand that any animal,
bird or reptile other then what we define as common house hold pets are not allowed within the city? Secondly
City of Yelm Employees enforce the code and do not have the authority of arbitrarily change the code. Based
on that understanding how can I help you?
