Nic, Thanks for your quick response to the washer drain being attached to the storm system. Let me restate the City of Yelm's position. The City of Yelm draws its drinking water from a shallow aquifer, thus ground water is considered environmentally sensitive and is protected by ordinance. The use of the storm water system for liquid waste of any kind is also prohibited by the Uniform Plumbing Code. Attached for your convenience is an email from Thurston County Environmental Health regarding the use of showers. The use of a washing machine would have been included if the proponent would have proposed the use. At the time of Site Plan Approval the intent was for the drain field to be abandoned and connection to City of Yelm Services. As with all plans they can change and 2 years later no development has been proposed. Expansion of your business to include additional showers or washing machines will be governed by Thurston County Environmental Health. Based on the attached email, expansion of the drain field, is not allowed and would require connection to City Sewer. Thank you. The proposal stated a use of 2 employees and up to 70 patrons per day with a projected flow not to exceed 225 gallons of sewage per day based on water -use figures from a similar establishment. This projected use is consistent with expected sewage flow figures from this type of establishment with no showers. Therefore the only specific condition that we have related to the use of the onsite sewage system is that no showers be fllowed in the building. When the establishment connects to the city sewer, we no longer will require a restriction to the waste water flow.
