Dear Mike:
City of Yelm
Community Development Department
105 Yelm Avenue West
P.O. Box 479
Yelm, WA 98597
After review of the sign permit application you submitted on behalf of your client, Walt's
Tire Factory, to install an awning sign at 1308 Yelm Avenue East, the Community
Development Department has determined that the permit application is not consistent
with the City's Sign Code and can not issue the permit at this time.
Specifically, the sign, as proposed, is inconsistent with Section 15.24.180 YMC, which
states:
Signage will be allowed on awnings and marquees in commercial and
industrial zones of the city. Such signage shall be limited to 30 percent
coverage of the face of the marquee or one square foot for each lineal foot
of the front of the marquee, whichever is less. The signage area shall be
calculated on the basis of the smallest rectangle, circle or spherical figure
that will enclose the entire copy area of the sign. Any such calculations
shall include the areas between letters and lines as well as the areas of
any devices which are intended to attract attention. Signage area shall be
included in the overall calculation of total allowable for the building.
As this determination terminates the review process, an appeal of this decision can be
filed within 14 days from the date of this letter, pursuant to YMC, Chapter 15.49,
Integrated Project Review Process. Any appeal must be in writing, contain specific
factual objections, and include the appeal fee of $50.00.
Sincerely,
Larry Hanson, Code Enforcement Officer
