NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Yelm City Council proclaims and recognizes January 2019 to be: Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month, and we urge all Washington Citizens to educate themselves about all forms, signs and consequences of human trafficking and to work together to end this ongoing human rights violation. There will be no meetings those days. • Hired a new Custodian Michael Irvin who started on December 1, 2018. • New financial and utility billing software has been installed at City Hall. You can now pay your utility bills through Express bill pay. Councilmember Carmody attended the Intercity Transit Authority meeting and will be attending the Downtown Corridor Study Open House on December 13, 2018 at the Yelm Community Center from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Councilmember Colt attended the General Government Committee meeting and will be bringing a Proclamation for Youth Council in January. Councilmember Stillwell attended the General Government Committee meeting and will be attending the last Chat with the Chief of the year. 12-11-18 Councilmember DePinto attended the Finance Committee meeting. City offices will be closed on December 25, 2018 and thanked staff for their hard work on the budget. Merry Christmas to everyone. UPDATES - City Administrator Michael Grayum - 1-8-19 • Michael Grayum had shoulder surgery over the holidays. • The transition into the new City Hall building went well. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony once everyone is settled in. • The Police Department has promoted a Patrol Officer to Sergeant, Community Development Department has hired a Civil Review Engineer, and the Finance Department hired a new Accounting Assistant. • Chad Bedlington, Public Works Director gave an update on the low water pressure around the city due to the power outage. • Grant Beck, Community Development Director and Project Manager for the City Hall move thanked staff and a special thank you to the public works department for getting all the furniture and boxes moved over to the new building and the IT department for getting everyone's computers up and running. We continue to work to Improve processes and organization in the new space. The building is beautiful. Councilmember Curry attended the Solid Waste Advisory Committee meeting and the School Bond Support Kick off meeting. Councilmember Carmody has been contacted by Pacific West Athletic Center to discuss doing a feasibility study for Yelm and they are scheduled for the Study Session in February to discuss before the full Council. Councilmember Carmody shared information for free training opportunity through the Department of Labor & Industries for Contractor training. The Council Retreat is scheduled for February 23'" in Olympia. Councilmember Colt added that the Pacific West Athletic Center are not asking for anything but support from the Council. The General Government Committee has been working on a Legislative Agenda for 2019. The Youth Council Proclamation will come before Council at the next meeting. Councilmember Colt also attended the School Bond Support Kick off meeting. Councilmember Stillwell attended the General Government Committee meeting, Yelm Downtown Corridor Study meeting and the School Bond Support Kick off meeting. Councilmember Wood attended the General Government Committee meeting. Councilmember DePinto thanked the high school students in the audience for attending the meeting. Councllmember DePinto attended other Community events. Councilmember Kaminski attended the Public Works Committee meeting, Thurston Thrives meeting, Downtown Corridor Study meeting, Yelm Chamber Luncheon meeting and will be attending a behind the scenes tour with the Port of Olympia. Mayor Foster attended the Annual Thanksmas Appreciation Luncheon for city employees and volunteers, Community Potluck Dinner at the Yelm Community Center; Government -to -Government luncheon with Nisqually Tribal Council, new County Commissioner Tye Menser spent time with Mayor Foster getting to know Yelm and attended funeral services for Battalion Chief Officer John Ostergard. It has been one year since Pierce County Deputy Daniel McCartney was killed in the line of duty. Mayor Foster attended a shared legislative agenda meeting with other Mayors and will be giving an address on the Mayor's State of the Communities tomorrow at the Red Lion Hotel. The point in time homeless census will be held on January 24th in Yelm. Mayor Foster asked the Council to review their Committee 1-8-19 and Liaison Assignments and let him know if they would like to continue to serve on those committees or if they would like to be on any other ones. 9.
