476 WSDT Speed Limit on S.R. 507City of Yelm Resolution No. 476 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION LOWER THE SPEED LIMIT ON S.R. 507 WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS. WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Transportation establishes speed limits on State Route 507 within the corporate City limits; and WHEREAS, the speed limit on State Route 507 between Yelm Creek and the City limits is currently 50 MPH; and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of SR 507 and the SR 510 Yelm Loop will trigger the need to lower the speed limit within this area; and WHEREAS, the City anticipates that the appropriate speed limit from Yelm Creek to McKenna will be 35 MPH upon opening of the Yelm Wal-Mart and the installation of the traffic signal at SR 507 and the SR 510 Yelm Loop; and WHEREAS, WSDOT has requested that the City of Yelm concur with a proposed change of the speed limit to 45 MPH; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of WSDOT not to change the speed limit of a State Highway within City limits without concurrence by the City Council and, without that concurrence, the speed limit will remain 50 MPH on SR 507; and WHEREAS, WSDOT has indicated that the speed limit change will be from the existing 35 MPH limits at Yelm Creek and the existing 35 MPH zone near the Vail Cut- off Road and not just within the City limits; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Yelm; Washington that: Washington State Department of Transportation is hereby requested to lower the speed limit on State Route 507 between milepost 29.41 and 29.90 from 50 MPH to 45 MPH, PROVIDED that the 45 MPH zone extend to the existing 35 MPH zone near the Vail Cut-off Road.
