A Resolution In Opposition to Drug Legalization
WHEREAS, the City of Yelm strongly opposes any attempts to legalize
the use of marijuana, and,
WHEREAS, the reckless campaign to legalize the use of marijuana
misleads and confuses young people as to the true risks of drug
use; and
WHEREAS, drug use contributes to the destruction of our nations,
communities and people, and law enforcement leaders must be at the
forefront to stop the illicit drug trade; and
WHEREAS, not one national health organization accepts marijuana or
other Schedule 1 drugs as medicine and many researchers adamantly
state that marijuana or~other Schedule 1 drugs have no medical
benefit whatsoever; and
WHEREAS, the following organizations have stated that marijuana and
other Schedule 1 drugs have not shown scientifically to be safe or
effective as a medicine; the American Medical Association, American
Cancer Society, National Multiple Sclerosis Association, American
Academy of Ophthalmology, National Eye Institute, National Cancer
Institute, National Institute for Neurological Disorders and
Strokes, National Institute for Dental Research, and the National
Institute on Allergy and Infectious Disease; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1994 affirmed the decision of
the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration that
marijuana remain a Schedule 1 substance; and
WHEREAS, it is neither rational
harmful, addictive drug with
effectiveness;
nor compassionate to provide a
no scientific proven medical
NOW, THEREFORE,. be it RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City
of Yelm, Washington is strongly opposed to any attempt to legalize
the distribution and/or use of any Schedule 1 drug.
