STUDY SESSION MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2009 5:00 P.M.
Mayor Ron Harding called the meeting to order at 5.15 pm.
Present: Don Miller, Joe Baker, Bob Isom, Pat Fetterly, John Thompson and
Russ Hendrickson. Staff: Shelly Badger
Presentations: Senator Randi Becker was introduced to Council. Mayor Harding
congratulated Senator Becker for accomplishing so much in her first year as
Senator and invited her to join in the Council's roundtable discussion.
Discussion included; information on the voting process on the Senate floor,
success of the Yelm Loop Project with the help of Tom Campbell and Dan
Swicker, discussion on the'/4 mile rail connection to Tacoma Rail and the water
issues before Yelm.
Council's major concern centered on the water issues and the uphill struggle with
the Department of Ecology, other government agencies in the State of
Washington and JZ Knight.
Senator Becker will be visible around Yelm conducting a National Health Plan
survey with the citizens of Yelm.
Mayor/Council Initiatives.
Shelly Badger- Update on the financial status of LID funding in light of Bond
Market and other possible funding options.
Councilmembers asked how quickly the Police Department will respond to new
City Park Ordinance including the continued offensive language and graffiti.
Also the status of the old Police Station building. Signage is on order for the City
Park and will be put in place. The use of the old Police Building will be revisited at
the 2010 Council Retreat meeting.
