Mayor Harding called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
2. Roll Call. Present: Joe Baker, Bob Isom, Mike McGowan, Tracey Wood and Russ
Hendrickson. Excused: J.W. Foster and Ken Garmann.
3. Agenda Approval
12-33 MOTION BY TRACEY WOOD APPROVING THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED.
CARRIED.
4. Special Presentations -Community Recognition Award - 2012 Washington State
Legislature Civic Educator of the Year - Mr. Bergh, Yelm High School.
-Presentation took place at the end of the meeting to allow Mr. Bergh time to
arrive.
Mayor Harding stated the Council takes great pride in recognizing members of the
community that make great contributions to our community. The Mayor and
Council would like to echo the appreciation and recognition of the 2012
Washington State Legislature Civic Educator of the Year that Mr. Bergh recently
received. Mayor Harding stated he had been a student of Mr. Bergh's while in high
school and that he had made a huge impact on him and many other people in the
community who had him as a teacher. Mr. Bergh apologized for being tardy and
stated he has taught government and history for 38 years. He has enjoyed politics
and government and feels it is the most interesting, entertaining and meaningful
subjects we could provide. He is deeply touched to be recognized by the
legislature, former students and parents of former students for having done a
good job. Mayor Harding presented him with a plaque and a Hawthorn tree ink
pen made by a local Craftsman from cuttings taken from the historical hawthorn
trees in Yelm.
5. Public Comment -Karen Messmer, representing Olympia Safe Streets
Campaign, a local non-profit advocate for improvements that make streets and
neighborhoods safer and more convenient for cyclists and walkers, updated the
Council on the maps recently printed. Olympia Safe Streets was recently awarded
a Federal Transportation Enhancement Grant to update and reprint the Thurston
County Bicycle Map. Ms. Messmer is here tonight to announce the updated
printing of the map and thank the City for its participation in the map update the
grant process. The new maps are available throughout Thurston County and
online at Thurstonbikemap.org. City Hall will be receiving some very soon.

10. Mayor and Council Initiatives
Councilmember Baker attended the Intercity Transit Board meeting where they
discussed whether the Centennial Amtrak Station in Olympia could continue to
operate with the limited funding.
Councilmember Isom attended Sustainable Thurston meeting, which will meet
twice a month through August.
Councilmember McGowan attended the Thurston County Home Consortium
where the allocation of the federal dollars was approved and now will go onto the
County Commissioners for their signatures.
